Whirlpool is looking for a Product Development Associate Engineer (Jr. Eng.) for our Refrigeration Structures Subsystem team. The engineer will be responsible for mechanical structures sub-system deliverables, including the development, verification, and implementation of metallic, plastic, and packaging components for home appliances (refrigerators, water and air treatment); working with global cross-system teams during various phases of projects and across various mechanical engineers' knowledge areas such as solid mechanics, dynamics, material properties, heat transfer, FEM, manufacturing process (injection molding, metal forming, rapid prototyping, etc).
This role in summaryRefrigeration Mechanical Structures Engineers are integrated into the global Refrigeration Mechanical Structures Subsystem team. This opportunity is located in Monterrey (Mexico). In this role, the candidate will work on product development for any of Whirlpool´s manufacturing locations.
Your responsibilities will includeDrive New Product Development / Cost & Quality projects for the refrigeration business (refrigerators, water, and air treatment) with a focus on structural components and systems
Support and work for projects through all project phases (Concept / Development / Implementation)
Solve problems and find reliable technical solutions for the applications
Create ideas for new designs, cost reduction, and quality improvement projects
Supporting lifecycle development of the product/product group
Develop and capture knowledge required to deliver subsystem-level excellence through Design Guides, FMEA, DVP&R, A3’s, Tolerance Stack Ups, and other tools and documents.
Cooperating with other functions and teams (marketing, design, manufacture eng., V&V eng.)
Define subsystem requirements and validate them through simulation analysis and/or tests
Supporting Product Specification based on released documentation and validated tests
Support benchmarking activities, experimentation, and data analysis via statistical tools (6 Sigma)
Support intellectual property creation: initiating and following up on patent analysis and identifying new ideas for patents
Support CAD model development by submitting simulation requests with clear boundary condition definitions, and interpreting results to make necessary design modifications. Use of tolerance analysis to drive sensitivity in the simulation results
Coordinate system integrators, build planners to prototype build plans to evaluate design concepts through physical lab testing
Minimum requirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related field
1+ years of Engineering & Technical experience in product development or a very similar role
Advanced English communication skills (written and spoken)
Preferred skills and experiences2+ years experience in the appliance/consumer goods industry or other relevant industry experience
Experience in component/product development lifecycle management
Drawing experience and GD&T (Geometry Dimensioning & Tolerancing) application (tolerance definition and analysis),
Experience in component/product development with 3D CAD modeling (Creo 7.0 is preferred), Windchill experience
Background in fundamental physics principles, including understanding of mechanical systems, solid mechanics, material properties, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
Knowledge of Design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA), 6 SIGMA tools, Requirements management
Knowledge and working experience in injection molding and sheet metal forming processes
Knowledge in tooling construction
Knowledge in simulation analysis (Finite Element Analysis - Ansys / Moldflow)
Analytical skills, experience in solving practical issues, and engaging cross-functional teams of multiple process partners to a consensus
