The anticipated salary range for this role is between $150,000.00 and $200,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees. **Role Description** Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation is hiring an Associate in the Global Financial Institutions Group. The Global Financial Institutions Group is a worldwide network of industry experts who understand the economic landscape and the challenges facing financial institutions. To meet the needs of domestic and global institutional clients, we leverage the full suite of products across SMBC to provide unique financial solutions to clients within the following industry sectors: banks and broker/dealers, regulated and alternative investment managers and funds, insurance companies and specialty finance/BDCs. In addition to providing financing, the GFIG team partners with many business units throughout the SMBC Group to offer our clients a wide range of products, including Capital Markets (DCM, ECM, ABS/CLOs), Sales and Trading (Equities & Fixed Income), Structured Financing (including subscription financing and asset-based lending), FX/Derivatives, securitization and operational services. The Associate role within the Global Financial Institutions Group will be responsible for supporting senior bankers as well as perform all analytical work surrounding both live transactions as well as existing transactions. **Role Objectives** + Credit Applications – Provide a deep level of analysis of the credit-worthiness of FIG specific transactions outlining the following: terms and conditions, deal structure, client financial analysis, credit risks, transaction profitability and deal rationale. + Transaction Execution – Work closely with the Head of Structuring and Execution as well as with internal groups including Credit, Legal and Operations, as well as external clients, to aid in the execution and closing of transactions. + Training - Guide and train the junior staff on credit analysis of FIG clients. + Other – Preparation of ad hoc client projects, industry research reports, client specific research, marketing materials, client presentations and pitch books. + Banker Support & Client Interaction – Participation on client calls and assistance with ongoing client coordination. **Qualifications and Skills** + Strong understanding of the Financial Institutions sector, global market trends and ability to adapt to changing market conditions. + It is preferred but not required to have experience within the Insurance & or Banks vertical. + Experience in counterparty risk is highly desired. + In-depth knowledge of all elements of credit risk and thorough knowledge of legal/compliance related to lending. + Deep understanding of deal structures, legal documents, financial statement analysis, and industry analysis. + Ability to provide a comprehensive credit analysis on a wide range of financial institutions. + Excellent analytical and technical abilities; able to prioritize and maintain an attention to detail. + Proven ability to work well both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. **Additional Requirements** SMBC’s employees participate in a Hybrid workforce model that provides employees with an opportunity to work from home, as well as, from an SMBC office.
