What is the opportunity?


As part of the Group Risk Management team (GRM), the Associate will be principally tasked with enabling senior risk managers in their function of adjudicating and monitoring credit risk across RBC’s Commercial Real Estate Lending Portfolio. RBC’s Commercial Real Estate platform spans a plethora of property owners and developers in Canada from major developers and institutional commercial property owners to regional holders and developers of commercial real estate. 

Associates will be primarily expected to maintain and improve the administrative handling of transaction pipelines and opine/recommend approvals of minor credit requests. Successful Associates will be tasked with the analysis of more complicated credits, assuming initial reviews of transactions and providing comprehensive opinions to senior members of the team. Ideal candidates will show an aptitude for progression to more senior roles in income producing or construction credit adjudication and/or aptitude for a transition to client facing roles.

What will you do?

Assume administrative function for the adjudication teams, recording and establishing a pipeline of incoming construction transactions.Provide immediate feedback on minor immediate/minor credit requests.Gain expertise within the Canadian Commercial Real Estate space and gain expertise in real estate project finance.Progress to adjudicate Real Estate credit applications within your delegated lending limits influencing portfolio quality through strategic assessment of risk, attention to data quality and knowledge-sharing. Ensure clients and colleagues are treated with respect, a highly professional empathetic approach is used, and good working relationships are maintained.Partner with the right people to achieve collective results.  Act as a catalyst to ensure team is strategically aligned with business strategies while maintaining the Bank’s desired risk profile.Ensure accurate and consistent processes/controls are in place and being followed to protect shareholder interests. Ensure credit transactions are adjudicated within Policy Guidelines, Standards, and Procedures or approved with reasonable rationale.Take initiative to proactively seek, demonstrate, and facilitate consistency in credit adjudication fully utilizing other resources including other risk teams.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

A strong work ethic and excellent communication skills.Undergraduate or Masters degree, with preference given to those developing relevant skillsets.Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills, with preference given to those with applied abilities (i.e. PowerPoint).Knowledge and understanding of financial statement analysis.Excellent conflict resolution skills.

Nice-to-have

Demonstrable desire to work in Commercial Real Estate with some industry knowledge (real estate)Exhibits interest in the Commercial Real Estate sector or RBC’s Real Estate platform.Demonstrates an interest in learning from senior leaders with a preference for in-person learning.
