What You’ll Be Doing

The US Leveraged Finance team in the US works with financial sponsors and corporate clients of CIBC to provide leveraged finance solutions and lending capabilities.  Our team works closely and has significant interaction with CIBC’s other US businesses, including Debt Capital Markets, Investment Banking, Corporate Banking, and Bank USA.  US Leveraged Finance is part of CIBC Capital Markets.

A strong Associate level candidate is needed to support the US Leveraged Finance team.  The team is responsible for the structuring and execution of leveraged finance products. The Associate will be responsible for providing corporate credit analysis and transactional support for the team, and will gain significant experience working on a wide range of “clubbed” and underwritten leveraged finance transactions, including leveraged buyouts, M&A financings and dividend recapitalizations.

How You’ll Succeed

Build detailed financial and cash flow models (“LBO models”), including developing detailed and justifiable assumptions and downside cases

Work with senior members of the US Leveraged Finance team and other business areas to conduct detailed due diligence, including working in data rooms

Assist in the evaluation and structuring of financing proposals

Assist in the drafting and preparation of cohesive and cogent pre-screen memos and credit approval packages, including developing well thought out credit strengths and risk with appropriate mitigants

Assist in the preparation and drafting of marketing materials and client presentations and assist in the presentation of proposed transactions to management and credit

Interact, ask questions and generally be pro-active with team members and other CIBC groups in order to continuously grow your knowledge base and competencies

Collect, assembly and analyze market data and transactions and maintain lender base of deals and lender relationships

Assist in closing transactions and be responsible for the on-going monitoring of booked assets

Who You Are

2 – 4 years of experience in leveraged finance or investment banking

Extremely detail-oriented while being able to handle many on-going tasks

Significant experience developing financial and cash flow models with detailed and justifiable assumptions and down side cases

Excellent writing and presentation skills with the ability to grasp complex concepts quickly

Strong grasp of credit analysis, accounting principles and ability to analyze and interpret financial statements

Ability to analyze data and situations and then develop and communicate well-thought out positions

Proven ability to contribute to high performance teams

Willing to work extended hours in a high pressure/high reward environment

Confidence to interact with other groups in CIBC and with team members at various levels

Well versed in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Cross-Functional Relationships

This job works with the platform’s Managing Director, Executive Directors, Directors and Analysts

This job interacts continuously with other CIBC’s businesses, including Investment Banking, Debt Capital Markets, Bank USA and other Corporate Banking groups

This job liaises with Credit and Risk Management

At CIBC, we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary $150,000 for the New York, New York market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
