The Strategic Procurement Associate is responsible for facilitating vendor qualification, selection, contract negotiation support, and ongoing contract administration for owner-furnished equipment at the utility scale. This position will develop and manage Clearway’s relationships with major equipment vendors, support Clearway’s multi-year procurement strategy, and inform our forward-looking technology and cost models. The Strategic Procurement Associate will work closely with other members of the Engineering and Strategic Procurement team to incorporate market intelligence and vendor inputs into the bid evaluation and contracting process, as well as coordinate between cross-functional teams (Development, O&M, Finance, Legal, and Construction) to advance procurement initiatives supporting Clearway’s multi-gigawatt project pipeline.
This position will report to the Director, Strategic Procurement (Solar & BESS), and can be based in Carlsbad, CA, Houston, TX, Denver, CO, Scottsdale, AZ, or San Francisco, CA offices.
What You'll Be Doing Support the Strategic Procurement Team in achieving the team’s mission and objectives, including the development and implementation of a best-in-class sourcing strategy for owner-furnished equipment (OFE). Build and maintain relationships with key players in the solar and energy storage industry to understand and monitor the commercial readiness of evolving technologies (including trackers, inverters, transformers, batteries, and modules); manage vendor onboarding and internal prequalification process. Document current and future pricing guidance of solar and energy storage technologies to inform cost and technology roadmap and development of sourcing strategies. Manage the development of RFP documentation, bidding strategies, identification, and qualification of bidders. Support the evaluation of bid responses and make shortlist and award recommendations that drive value creation and mitigate risk. Effectively support the negotiation of agreements for items related to scope, price, terms & conditions, delivery, and contract changes with suppliers in accordance with Clearway Supply Chain policies. Apply contracting abilities, editing of work scope, understanding of company terms and conditions, Incoterms, and accurate monitoring of commercial changes from award to delivery. Ensure that Clearway risks are mitigated through alignment across major project agreements (EPC agreement, equipment supply, PPA, Warranty, etc.) Ensure timely and frequent engagement with key cross-functional teams on all issues related to equipment supply. Support and facilitate internal team resolution on material changes to agreements across both commercial and technical issues. Coordinate and manage issuance and administration of purchase orders, including the coordination of deliveries, invoicing, payment, lien waivers, etc. Assist in the identification, development, and implementation of new contract policies and processes, including the incorporation of continuous process improvement. What You'll Bring Bachelor’s degree required (in contract management, supply chain management, procurement, or related field preferred). Contract negotiation or contract management experience. 4+ years of experience working on solar and/or energy storage projects or other related renewables industry experience. Ability to travel up to 10%. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Self-starter with a strong work ethic. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an understanding of contract language and technical concepts. Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint & SharePoint.
