What You’ll Be Doing
 

The Capital Markets arm of CIBC provides corporate, government and institutional clients with innovative solutions to help them raise capital and grow and invest actively throughout global markets and key financial centres around the world. To deliver on its vision to be our clients’ preferred capital markets banking partner across multiple products and services, both in Canada and where our core competencies can be exported. The Capital Markets mission is to bring Canadian Capital Markets products to Canada and the rest of the world and bring the world to Canada.

As an Associate, Supervision & Governance, you’ll support the Director and Executive Director in ensuring effective first-line defense and surveillance across all communication channels in a timely manner. You’ll monitor communications to ensure compliance with the code of conduct, regulatory guidance, and brand protection, adhering to standards set by OSFI, FCAC, CIRO, CSA, CFTC, SEC, and others. You’ll also be responsible for implementing and maintaining regulatory requirements through daily surveillance and supervision. Assisting the Director in group management will be essential, ensuring timely task completion and effective issue escalation. Additionally, you will provide oversight, guidance, and training to team members to meet departmental goals and objectives. A strong understanding of regulations and the ability to address regulatory risks related to CIBC’s sales and trading franchise will be crucial. You will manage end-to-end sales monitoring and risk mitigation, utilizing strong investigative and decision-making skills to ensure timely actions while delivering a positive client experience.

How You’ll Succeed

Supervision – This team is a delegated supervisor for Global Investment Banking and Corporate Banking teams, as such, you’ll ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and manage regulatory risk. Your responsibilities include supervising employees, assisting with communication plans for clients, marketplaces, and regulators, and following up on incidents to ensure actions are completed. You will review daily electronic correspondence related to Global Investment Banking/Corporate Banking working directly with sales and traders to provide front-office support. Additionally, you will offer feedback and input on all aspects of the supervision program as needed.

Regulatory Enquiries & Compliance – You’ll act as a liaison on behalf of the business between Compliance and Regulators; fulfilling requests and ensuring enquiries are handled timely and in a professional manner. When needed, you’ll engage with clients and internal traders where necessary, providing guidance and education and/or change behavior where indicated.

Audits/Reviews – You’ll provide assistance and feedback during internal audit and regulatory reviews, working with stakeholders to remediate any gaps identified during the process.

Industry Engagement & Relationship Management – You’ll participate in industry working groups and committees to stay informed about current issues and perspectives. Additionally, you will assist with vendor relationships related to supervision systems as needed. Maintaining relationships with regulators and regulatory bodies is essential, as is staying updated on ongoing regulatory developments to analyze their impact on the business. You will also engage in projects and initiatives as required by business needs.             

Who You Are

You have an undergraduate degree in a relevant program such as Business, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Finance, etc.

You have 3-5 years experience working in the financial services industry.

Experience and knowledge of capital markets is considered an asset. Demonstration of interest in capital markets risk/compliance functions will be considered. Preference will be given to applicants who are also pursuing the CFA.

You're digitally savvy. You have experience with VBA coding and data analysis. You have knowledge of MS Office, especially in Excel is required. You have experience managing small and medium sized databases using tools such as MS Access.
