Job Duties: Associate, Research Analyst with Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC in New York, New York. Research, model, and write reports on commodity market dynamics and developments with particular focus on energy commodities and specialization in load and global coal markets. Build supply and demand balances using multiple data sources in various forms and data formats, seasonally and bias-adjusting when appropriate. Establish quantitative and econometric supply and demand models, including areas not previously covered by the team, such as power markets and the energy transition. Develop deeper understanding of pricing framework for coal, which may be empirical as well as theoretical. Convey analysis and market views to sales and trading desks, and clients (both commodity and portfolio allocation specialists and non-specialists). Gather data, perform analyses, and present reports using large data sets of economic and commodity, market and company data. Initiate and execute original research from start to completion.

Job Requirements: Ph.D. degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or related field, and one (1) year of experience in the job offered, in a related role, or in a research oriented role OR Master’s Degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or related field, and three (3) years of experience in the job offered, in a related role, or in a research oriented role. Prior experience must include one (1) year of experience with a Ph.D. degree or three (3) years of experience with a Master’s degree with the following: coding with programming languages such as Python, Stata, or R to bring in data from vendors and build and run econometric fundamental models; leveraging economic principles such as marginal and equilibrium analyses, agent choice optimization, and econometric models to conduct supply and demand analyses and build pricing frameworks; building analytical infrastructure related to supply and demand; and preparing, presenting, and communicating complicated economic analysis and views clearly and concisely to specialists and non-specialists and answer their open-ended questions.

Salary Range: The expected annual base salary for this New York, New York, United States-based position is $150,000 - $200,000.
