Purpose

Participate in the planning and delivery of academic advising services and programs that promote comprehensive educational opportunities for McCombs School of Business undergraduate students. Serve as a member of a larger community of professional and student staff in the Texas McCombs BBA Program Office who enhance the educational experiences of students by providing additional opportunities for global education, student leadership, career planning, academic support, and outreach/recruitment.

Responsibilities

Caseload Management:

Manage a caseload of approximately 400 studentsAdvise students who are in the McCombs Success Scholars program, which is a student success initiative that targets first generation and under-represented student populations, as part of the 400 student caseloadDemonstrate sufficient knowledge of undergraduate degrees, policies and procedures, and campus resourcesMaintain 24 hours of available student contact per week for student meetingsDocument all advising appointments, phone calls, and other relevant contact with students within two working daysMaintain accurate database of assigned students as needed.Communicate with students via email on a weekly basis. Respond to student email within 2 working daysAssist with adds/drops/withdrawalsAdvise students on scholastic probation and students in crisisServe as the in-office resource advisor to assist with time sensitive and emergency situations at least once per week

Advising-related Activities:

Facilitate presentations on advising and UT 360 Connections topics in MAN 101 (required first semester 1 hour credit seminar)Maintain active involvement in the planning and implementation of summer and August orientationServe as the primary contact and liaison to a McCombs academic departmentParticipate in university-wide and school-wide events such as commencement, Gone to Business, and Honors DayParticipate in professional development activities (Academic Counselors Association, NACADA, etc.)

Project Coordination:

Coordinate initiatives related to student persistence: Serve as main point of contact for progress-to-degree issues, identifying trends in attrition, and collecting resources to encourage four-year graduation. Collect and prepare paperwork for student appeal processes each semesterBack-up support for MAN 101/360 Connections projects: Support lead coordinator in implementing logistics for MAN 101S and MAN 101T

Required QualificationsBachelor's degree and at least four years of experience working with college students in an academic setting, or master's degree and at least two years of above experience.Commitment to creating an environment in which all students can succeed.Experience providing academic advising and maintaining student records.Strong interpersonal skills.Strong written and oral communication skills.Excellent attention to detail.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree and two years of experience working with college students.Two years of experience providing academic advising to undergraduate students. Experience coordinating projects in an academic setting.Experience working with student populations at the University of Texas at Austin.Knowledge of UT Austin policies and procedures related to the functions of the position.Knowledge of UT Austin academic advisor resources such as Advisors Toolkit, and IDA 2.0, and UT mainframe applications such as NRRECS.

Salary Range

$49,500 annually

Working ConditionsWorks in standard office conditions, in a shared office environment, with the majority of time spent in contact with students, faculty, and administrators during usual office hours.Some evening and weekend hours may be required during peak periods and special events.Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.Applicants must be legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States. This position is not eligible for sponsorship of work visas.This is an Austin, TX-based position.
