Fully remote are roles that can be performed remotely, require employees to live in approved states and will have purpose-driven in-person interactions on occasion.

Job Summary

As a key member of the Plant Accounting Team, the Associate Accountant will report to the Plant Accounting Manager. The selected candidate will be someone who is highly motivated and an analytical thinker, working through complex problems in order to reach justifiable conclusions to support their team, by utilizing both technical and analytical expertise to ensure financial data integrity and project completion. Provide support to meet business goals and objectives.  Multitasking abilities are a plus; at times, they will have to pivot and shift their priorities.

Job Responsibilities

•    Assist in the monthly financial closing processes.
•    Record journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
•    Perform reconciliations with explanations and supporting documentation.
•    Review SAP and Power Plan data with the ability to identify and correct errors with respect to master data, processing of data, and reporting of data.
•    Develop and maintain analytical and processing tools, spreadsheets, upload programs and databases to ensure financial data integrity, and enhance overall use of FI, Power Plan, and FERC modules.
•    Assist in the identification, development and implementation of enhancements to SAP financial system and Power Plan to meet business needs. Review and evaluate new and existing accounting policies for application.
•    Review classification of balance sheet and income statement in the general ledger report and prepares necessary adjustments in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
•    Assists with various audit tasks, including providing support/and or documentation for internal and external audit and various ad-hoc reports needed.
•    Ensure the integrity of the books and records of the company.
•    Responds to and resolves issues and requests from other business areas and client (LIPA) regarding various accounting issues and reports, including Profit and Loss statements.
•    Researches open accounting issues and recognize potential issues and/or conflicts so corrective actions can intercept and minimize issues.
•    Develop relationships with key stakeholders in order to fully explain and support the implementation of PSEG-LI accounting policies and processes.
•    Prepare detailed and accurate financial data schedules as requested in support of the interim and annual external audit.
•    Promote and implement procedural best practice by standardizing control checks and reporting in order to ensure all working practices are compliant with PSEG-LI policies, US GAAP and regulatory requirements.
•    Participate in ad hoc projects; assist other areas and processes within Finance as needed.
•    Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
•    Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintain personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting or a relevant financial field, to be received within 6 months of receiving your offer
• Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint   
• Knowledge of accounting and finance principles and practice under US GAAP


Preferred Qualifications:


• CPA Preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to make sound judgments within established policies and procedures as well as challenge current processes in order to achieve greater efficiencies
• Experience in responding to audit requests and preparing audit responses with adequate support 
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to think from an objective perspective
• Proficient in SAP (FI module) 
• Experience with Power plan Fixed Asset module
• Experience in working with data analysis tools (SAP BO/BI, SQL, SAAS, etc.)
• Advanced Excel skills and prior experience with MS Access 
• Ability to work in a highly regulated field
• Knowledge and work experience with GASB accounting
