Associate Actuary, Behavioral Health & Child Welfare - Indianapolis Health (Remote)

Overview

Milliman's Indianapolis Healthcare practice is hiring an Associate Actuary (ASA) for our growing portfolio of Behavioral Health and Child Welfare Team projects. The position will advise public sector clients on program financing. The Associate will lead client interactions and assist in leading analytics, project management, and review. The ideal candidate will have a strong financial and analytical background combined with detailed knowledge of human services and other public health programs; experience in child welfare and/or Medicaid programs is required. 

Consulting projects include: analysis of public health and human service program design, payment rate development, and analysis of provider/agency financial information. This person will work with other consultants as part of a multi-disciplinary project team.

Responsibilities

In this role you can expect to support a wide range of clients and perform the following types of analyses:

Child Welfare and Medicaid rate setting Child Welfare and Medicaid budget and forecasting assistance Risk Adjustment Projection and other financial modeling including development of dashboards Experience analysis including outcomes analysis, prevalence/incidence estimates, and expenses associated with specific diseases and conditions Actuarial support for government reporting and requirements

Qualifications

Knowledge of child welfare, Medicaid, and other government health-related programs Knowledge of Child Welfare and Medicaid terminology to communicate effectively with clients and to understand their complex reporting requirements Computer programming skills Microsoft Office Suite proficiency including Excel, Word, & PowerPoint Solid analytic and mathematics skills Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment and independently manage own work Attention to detail Ability to work on multiple projects at any given time Ability to apply skills learned on one project to subsequent analyses Professional presence Superior problem-solving capabilities Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong organizational and time management skills

Required

At least 5 Society of Actuaries examinations passed

The Team

The Behavioral Health & Child Welfare team is a group of 20+ colleagues, from varying backgrounds, including actuaries, data analysts, and child welfare consultants. This team works primarily with state Medicaid and child welfare agencies on rate setting and financial policy projects. The team often collaborates with members of other teams (i.e. Policy, Medicaid Financial Reporting, Healthcare Management) to best serve our clients unique needs.

Location

This role is based out of the Milliman office in Indianapolis, IN but candidates hired into this role may work remotely anywhere in the US.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $84,000 to $176,000, depending on a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, location, etc.
