Position Focus:
The Senior Associate / Associate AD of Development develops, implements and manages strategic plans related to raising annual funds for the development operations within Yale Athletics in an effort to increase and secure donor participation . This role is responsible for creating external and engaging relationships with alumni, parents, donors and prospects in support of Yale Athletics. The Associate AD of Development oversees major gift fundraising for the Intercollegiate Athletics Program, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors for the Program.

Development & Alumni Relations: Serve as chief development officer for athletics. Manage day-to-day contact with Major, Principal and Reunion Gifts staffs in Central Development to ensure athletics is well represented in appropriate proposals and gift officers are well educated on the needs of the athletic department (including endowment and capital projects). Works closely with the Director of Athletics and Office of Central Development on identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects for the department of athletics. Create and implement a strategic and effective plan to create awareness, increase donations, generate interest, build engagement, and gain support from prospects in support of athletics. Primary liaison and facilitator to the Director of Athletics to all prospects and fundraising initiatives. Responsible for creating and promoting opportunities for communicating the priorities of Yale Athletics to a broad audience of prospective donors. Provide support and direction on special projects, areas of interest/support and capital projects as it relates to development. Oversight and management of staff to host over 70 events per year, including alumni days, golf outings, association, sport anniversaries, and other key events. Oversight of the planning and execution of the Department's annual fundraising campaigns for 35 varsity sports. Responsible for establishing the revenue projections for each association and executing the fundraising strategy to achieve set goals. Promote and steward donor recognition levels. Department liaison with the central Development Office and Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) for all athletic alumni activities. Responsible for development activities relating to cultivation and solicitation efforts, preparation of proposals, arrangements for staff visits with prospective donors to Yale Athletics and participate in the planning for cultivation and stewardship events. Oversee and maintain a robust stewardship program for appropriately recognizing and thanking all donors. Oversight of annual calendar of alumni office events. Oversight of bi-annual Blue Leadership Ball production. Serve as department's lead liaison for organization, and execution of George H. W. Bush '48 Lifetime of Leadership Award recipients.

Fiscal Responsibility: Oversight of Advancement & Alumni Relations Budget. Oversight of External Engagement Budget. Responsible for achieving all corporate partnership revenue goals. Responsible for achieving all sport and department association budget and goals.

*Sr. Associate AD or Associate AD title will be considered based on experience.

Essential Duties:
1. Promotes and integrates programs for alumni that support the university's strategic plan and goals of Development and Alumni Relations. 2. Manages and implements the various programs; makes sure all programs are developed in collaboration with University colleagues and ensures support divisional and cross-divisional goals. 3. Develops marketing and communications strategies aimed at alumni, staying abreast of various medias and evolving technologies to create a high level of engagement with alumni; works with the rest of the Alumni Relations staff to implement programs. 4. Collaborates and manages metrics showing outcomes of programs; develops and oversees budgets for programming events, marketing services, etc. and appropriately allocates resources to support programs. 5. Integrates individual cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for donors. 6. Prepares gift proposals, solicitation letters and other development-related materials. 7. Advises donors on gift planning strategies to maximize institutional gift benefits and when appropriate, works closely with the primary liaison for the Office of Gift Planning. 8. Provides oversight to ensure all work plan goals are met; assists with strategy and complicated gift work. 9. Schedules and arranges on-site and off-site meetings, luncheons, visits, etc. of institutional leaders with major donors and prospects. 10. Identifies foundation and corporate funding opportunities specific to priority project needs and assists with proposals and stewardship. 11. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field. Four to eight years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact comfortably in business and social settings with major donors, prospects, community leaders and university officials.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to handle diverse portfolio and simultaneous tasks. Strong attention to detail.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to effectively respond to complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies

Required Skill/Ability 4:

High level quantitative skills. Ability to analyze data and implement strategy.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Skilled in Microsoft suite and Google platform. Ability to learn new software and data management systems.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Masters in Sports Management or Administration.
