Associate Data ScientistWe are looking for an enthusiastic and driven temporary Part-time Associate Data Scientist to join KBR’s Hawkeye Flight team, supporting NAVAIR PMA-231. This exciting position will involve applying advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) and AI/ML techniques to large datasets within the aviation and defense sectors. The ideal candidate will assist in developing innovative data science models and analytics solutions that help optimize operations and provide mission-critical insights to the program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in developing and implementing NLP, AI, and ML models to analyze flight and operational data from various sources, including maintenance logs, operational reports, and sensor data. Utilize machine learning techniques to identify trends, anomalies, and predictive patterns that enhance flight readiness, reliability, and operational efficiency. Support the integration of capabilities into the existing flight program infrastructure, ensuring seamless data flow and effective model deployment. Work closely with NAVAIR PMA-231 teams to translate business needs and operational requirements into actionable data science solutions. Conduct data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation to ensure high-quality, high-impact insights. Assist in the creation of visualizations and reporting tools to communicate results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in NLP, AI, and ML techniques, and recommend best practices to improve current models and workflows.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Citizenship & Clearance: U.S. Citizenship is required. Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret security clearance.
Education: Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field.
Experience: Entry Level – 0+ years of professional experience in data science, AI/ML, or a related field.
Technical Skills/Expertise:
Strong understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and its applications. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, with experience in NLP libraries (e.g., NLTK, SpaCy). Familiarity with machine learning algorithms (supervised, unsupervised, and deep learning techniques). Experience working with large datasets and data wrangling, ideally with structured and unstructured data. Knowledge of data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Python-based libraries (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn). Familiarity with data storage and querying technologies such as SQL or NoSQL databases.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with AI/ML technologies in the aviation, aerospace, or defense industries. Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure). Experience using big data frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Hadoop). Knowledge of deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) for NLP and other AI tasks. Experience supporting military or defense initiatives. Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers and operational staff, to integrate data science into program workflows. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skillsScheduled Weekly Hours: Part-time, 25 hours/week
Compensation: $74,000-$93,000. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
