Associate Database Administrator

How You’ll Support Our Mission

As a member of the Cloud Operations team, you will collaborate with development teams to ensure our databases function reliably and with excellent performance.  You can expect to participate in capacity planning sessions, disaster recovery exercises and security audits to monitor access controls for our protected data assets. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
 
The right candidate for this role is customer focused, thorough, and can work with and across multi-disciplinary teams.  You will excel at performing root cause analysis, documenting your findings, and driving issues to resolution with permanent solutions (no band-aids!).  As a steward of our production systems, you will regularly be asked to prescribe thoughtful solutions to administering our Azure resources so that our platform continues to scale in a clean and sustainable fashion.   

 

What You’ll Be Doing - the day to day

•    Cloud Database Foundations: Assist with management of database platforms (IaaS/PaaS) through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
•    Automation & Scripting: Assist with designing, creating and troubleshooting DBA scripts and automation 
•    Operational Excellence: Support routine operational tasks and contribute to process improvements and documentation.
•    Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Assist with monitoring and troubleshooting database servers and processes to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
•    Security & Compliance: Learn and apply Azure security principles for secure data handling, and best practices for compliance.  

 

Who You Are - the essentials (Some of the things required to be successful in the role): 

•    1+ year working with TSQL, Azure SQL and SQL Server. 
•    Ability to understand and write TSQL queries.
•    Ability to connect to, explore and understand database architecture.
•    Experience working in an Azure-based environment, familiar with resource types, functionality and interoperability.
•    Knowledge of cloud security principles and best practices for managing secure configurations.

 

Who You Are - the desirables (It’s a plus if you have): 

•    Familiarity with other RDBMS technologies like MySQL, MongoDB, Cosmos and other NoSQL platforms.
•    Experience with Security Compliance and reporting.
•    Experience with scripting technologies (WMI, PowerShell).  
•    Experience working in Agile development environment.
