Associate Dean for Marketing and Communications - Mellon College of Science
The Mellon College of Science at Carnegie Mellon University is searching for an Associate Dean for Marketing and Communications to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. This position is responsible for leading the communications/media relations function within the Mellon College of Science (MCS). In conjunction with the Dean/College Leadership & the Vice President Marketing & Communications, this position will develop strategic communications and media relations plans for MCS and will determines needs, materials, staffing and budget in order to accomplish strategic plans.

Core responsibilities include:

Builds communication plans that produce results in various types of media.Reviews impact and shares success of efforts with key partners.Determines overall strategy and communication delivery method, content and timetable.Communicates and coordinates messaging with other university collaborators.Offers counsel and guidance to management for dealing with the media, public and internal communications.Coordinates or partners with central Marketing and Communications as needed to support overall communication needs of college or campus.Oversees the development and provides editorial approval on press releases and related college, campus or division communications. May be involved in technical writing (papers and proposals) and editing.Oversees the work of vendors, designers, photographers, video producers and others to plan and produce promotional publications, videos and other materials.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degreeYears of experience: At least five years related experience in Communications, Marketing, Media Relations, and Public Relations. A combination of education and meaningful experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.  Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
