This position requires the ability to perform independent research into new applications or improved techniques of design or manufacturing. This position also requires awareness of regulatory requirements as they impinge on the product design, manufacture, and utilization by the end customer. **Duties and Responsibilities** _To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices._ + Prepare drawings, engineering specifications, and layouts of components and assemblies + Make routine engineering computations and make adjustments in drawings or specifications + Prepare estimates, reports and stress analysis and other technical calculations as required + Review product design plans to ensure accuracy of plans and compliance to design specifications + Select and specify tolerances, materials, components, etc. as required in the product design + Generate design modifications as indicated by test, usage, customer needs, and vendor changes + Use CAD equipment and software to develop designs or revise designs **Qualifications** _The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties._ **Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Manufacturing + Proficient in computer software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook + Proficient oral and written communication skills + Ability to organize and prioritize tasks + Self-motivated and strong work ethic + At least 1 year experience in a position related to manufacturing or in a engineering role (school project, work, or temporary summer job) + Experience with quality, engineering, and manufacturing best practices **Preferred Qualifications** + 3-5 years' experience in a manufacturing or engineering role + Knowledge of DOT rail transportation regulations and AAR manuals **Work Environment and Physical Requirements** **Work Environment** _The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
