**Job Summary:**
As an Associate Design Engineer, you will work closely with a product group and engineering project lead to assist in the design and development of new and existing components, assemblies or systems for excavation equipment and attachments. This position performs various design activities that include design concept development utilizing 3D modeling software, basic to intermediate analysis work ranging from finite element analysis to bolted joint analysis, identify and assist in resolution of design problems, work closely with other Caterpillar teams and suppliers, and manage the development and completion of any required drawings to support the manufacturing of parts related to your project designs.
**What You Will Do:**
• Create 3D models of new designs utilizing PTC Creo
• Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents
• Overseeing the efforts of drafting teams to create any manufacturing drawings related to your designs.
• Perform needed analysis activities to aid in development and refinement of designs.
• Communicate technical information to team members, other Caterpillar engineering teams and suppliers
**Education Requirement:**
Associates’ degree within a related technical field -Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science

**Product Design and Development:**
• Working Knowledge of mechanical design practices and methodologies; ability to use this knowledge to optimize product designs.
**Top Candidates will also have:**
+ Proficiency in application of PTC Creo or other parametric 3D modeling and/or simulation tools
+ Experience with manufacturing and/or fabrication
+ Experience maintaining or operating heavy equipment
**Additional Information**
The location for this position is Rapid City, SD.
Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
This position will require less than 10% travel.

**Summary Pay Range:**
$71,040.00 - $106,440.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
