Associate Director, Alliance & Integration Management

This is what you will do:

Represent Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease Unit, on a variety of partnerships including active strategic alliances and other post-deal corporate partnering initiatives thereby ensuring partnering deals’ objectives are realized, facilitate strategic discussions and decision-making processes, manage contractual and business issues, and lead effective cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

Manage the ongoing business relationship with various partners throughout the post-deal partnership life cycle:Plan and manage the operational aspects of alliances, including kick-offs, joint governance committees, ensuring alliance effectiveness and appropriate communications, coordination of activities, managing escalation, solving business problems, negotiating with partners on related agreementsProactively track, monitor, and communicate contract milestones, obligations, and any financial payments to stakeholdersManage process for review and approval of reports and paymentsDevelop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholdersWork with project teams to evaluate and resolve any business / contractual issues in an equitable and timely mannerPerform periodic alliance health checksSet specific and measurable performance objectives, standards, and accountabilities for each assigned collaboration, ensuring the vision, goals, and objectives of the alliance are aligned and communicated between the collaboratorsMaintain regular, timely and accurate reporting to key stakeholders on assigned projectsLead efforts to ensure a smooth transition from pre-deal term sheet to post-deal wind-down for all assigned Alexion deals, including alliances, post-merger integrations, and divesture / out-license initiativesHelp to drive the alliance management strategy for Alexion and assists in the development of alliance management capabilities across the organization, such as staying abreast of new developments and trends, industry benchmarking, and identifying new capabilitiesLead special partnering initiatives, with coordination of cross-functional teams for post-merger integration and out-licensing, as assignedContribute to business development initiatives including pre-deal diligence reviews and negotiation of alliance-related agreements

Essential:

Bachelor’s degreeExtensive relevant multi-disciplinary experience pharmaceutical/biotech industry, which may include business development, licensing, finance, legal, project management, strategic planning, R&D, commercial, GxP / quality, or manufacturingExtensive experience in alliance management leadershipKnowledge of the drug development process relevant to pharmaceutical / biotech organizationsAbility to translate complex contract terms and conditions into strategic and operational elements for both internal and external partiesTact and diplomacy for interacting with people from different cultures and at every level of an organizationExperience managing and resolving issues, risks, and conflictsProven ability to operate independently, with minimal direct day-to-day supervisionAbility to travel up to 10% of the time, including internationally as requiredThe duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. Desirable:

Bachelor’s degree specifically in business, legal, finance or life sciences disciplineRelevant graduate-level degree and/or other professional certificationsExperience training others on best practices for collaborative business relationshipsExperience managing post-merger integrations and asset divesture / out-licensesProficiency with a wide range of data and information types, which may include scientific, clinical, legal, regulatory, business, and financial mattersExperience with co-commercialization partnershipsSuccessful track record of managing large cross-functional teams of without direct authorityAbility to business relationships with existing and potential alliance partners, including evaluating and recommending opportunities
