SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of the Brown Health Community Engaged Translational Research Core (BH-CEnTRC) provides leadership and management for life science investigator - community partnerships and community engaged research activities across the division of Biology and Medicine (BioMed). The position develops and executes strategies and systems to support life sciences investigators (LSI) involved in community engaged research in order to establish a systematic approach to positive impact in our broader community.
BH-CEnTRC is a hub to provide support for community engaged research within the division of Biology and Medicine (BioMed) at Brown University. The Associate Director of BH-CEnTRC, under the supervision of the Senior Associate Dean for DEI at BioMed, will have responsibility for the operational administration of this hub, which includes:
Regular communication and engagement with community engaged life sciences investigators
Assessment of the needs of community engaged life sciences investigators
Provision of resources to community engaged life sciences investigators to improve capacity to serve community members
Collection of data related to relationships between life sciences researchers, community members and other faculty within the division of BioMed
Connecting community engaged life sciences investigators with community partners
Collecting data from community partners to characterize the quality of BioMed community engaged research partnerships
Coordinating with the Swearer Center for Public Service and Office of Community Engagement to assure alignment with Brown’s recently launched community engagement agenda
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of two years from date of hire; the position may be renewed, dependent on program needs and funding. To facilitate collaboration, the Swearer Center Research Partnership Specialist will have a dotted line to the Associate Director of BH-CEnTRC.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Required: Bachelors’ degree required
Master’s degree in a related field preferred
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience that includes community-engaged research, working collaboratively and effectively with partners within higher education and in the public and non-profit sectors.
Minimum of 2 years of managerial experience required.
And/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Competencies
Interest and knowledge of community engaged life sciences research, and ability to scope related collaborative research projects with stakeholders in Rhode Island.
Strong skills in management, programmatic structure and process, documentation and assessment.
Collaborative work style, strong team player, inclusiveness and flexibility; ability to build collaborations with diverse communities.
Track record of execution and change orientation: open-mindedness; focus on learning, assessment, constant improvement, and accountability; attention to detail.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to generate enthusiasm among faculty, other university colleagues and practitioners in the field.
Ability to work evening and weekend events/activities, including some holidays.
Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
