Reporting to the Executive Director of Business Development, OAPI, the Associate Director, Business Development will support global business development activities focusing on due diligence of pre-clinical and clinical stage business development opportunities.
This role requires deep scientific knowledge and extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including a broad and deep understanding of pharmaceutical development, regulatory and commercial imperatives. The Associate Director will be responsible for leading diligence projects and ensuring alignment with business development and corporate strategy objectives. You will be responsible for the design, execution, and management of multiple market research engagements. In this role, you will also act as a communication conduit for business project status, actions, decisions, identifying risk and issues for assigned projects.
This position is based in Princeton, New Jersey. Otsuka maintains a hybrid work policy and travel is expected 20% of the time based on business needs.
Job Description:
Lead due diligence scientific evaluation, including responsibilities on target product profile (TPP) development, clinical development plan (CDP) development coordination, support of commercial evaluation, and overall management of due diligence process. Collaborate, support and coordinate with BD evaluation team to drive the activities/input necessary to establish the business case (scientific/ technical evaluation, development plan, primary and secondary market research, market opportunity, competitive intelligence, strategic assessment, etc.) and present it to senior leaders in the business. Maintain a therapeutic understanding and competence in area of focus to understand scientific evidence and business requirements to lead to viable opportunities. Perform search and evaluation activities and initial scientific evaluation for opportunities in the Neuroscience, Nephrology, Autoimmune and related fields to proactively identify and solicit new strategic research partnerships with biotech and pharmaceutical companies. Work closely with relevant internal R&D teams to deeply understand their scientific strategy and align outreach strategy with existing and new areas of Otsuka’s R&D focus to align on opportunity assessment. Act as a point of contact between the alliance teams and committees to assure successful collaboration with respect to development and commercialization of product. Establish and maintain internal and external stakeholder networks.Qualifications:
Required Knowledge and Experience
Extensive scientific knowledge – ideally in neuroscience and / or nephrology, and / or autoimmune, or other significant scientific training is required.Knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical development and commercialization and business practices required to successfully bring drugs to market.Knowledge of regulated environments across key geographies.Business development experience within pre-clinical and/or clinical stage business development.Demonstrated ability to work in an international and multicultural environment and successfully build relationships with and influence US and ex-US headquarters stakeholders.Well-established global network in the biopharma industry.Experience leading cross-functional teams. Experience in sourcing and evaluating pharmaceutical or biotech products, for potential licensing /acquisition.Knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical development and commercialization and business practices required to successfully bring drugs to market. Business development experience within pre-clinical and/or clinical stage business development.Required Skills
