About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 12 Job Description: S&P Dow Jones Indices is looking for a Lead Cloud Database Engineer with 12+ year of experience to play a crucial role within the Cloud Database Engineering team. This position is essential for securing the AWS cloud database environment used for running index applications, following industry best practices and internal policies. The Lead Cloud Database Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of databases that support SPDJI across shared services. Key responsibilities include ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of the databases. The engineer will also collaborate with application leads to design database engineering solutions, coordinate with DTS leads for integration with core services, and work with InfoSec leads to align our databases with security standards. In this critical position, you will be instrumental in expanding and optimizing our AWS cloud databases and pipeline architecture. Your core responsibilities will encompass engineering and supporting our AWS cloud databases, focusing on ensuring database security and the consistent delivery of our services. The Impact: We are looking for a skilled database engineer with hands-on experience in database design and management. You should be proficient in MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle or NoSQL, and have strong skills in performance optimization and data modeling. Responsibilities: Provision and manage RDS, Aurora, and various other databases within the AWS Cloud environment. Acquire hands-on experience with advanced AWS Cloud solutions, specifically utilizing AWS Aurora and RDS. Automate routine Cloud DBA maintenance and patching tasks by applying scripting technologies. Develop scripts that facilitate the automation of database infrastructure provisioning. Implement industry best practices and controls in cloud database engineering to ensure optimal performance. Evaluate and incorporate new cloud database services and solutions provided by AWS. Enforce comprehensive cloud database security policies and establish effective audit logging mechanisms. Engage in AWS RDS Engineering (Amazon Relational Database Service) to enhance database management capabilities. Lead the development and implementation of database standards that uphold excellence within the organization. Optimize the process of database provisioning to improve efficiency and reduce downtime. Design and implement robust backup, retention, and failover strategies to safeguard data integrity. Formulate failover solutions that assure business continuity and operational resilience. Conduct thorough disaster recovery planning to mitigate risks associated with unexpected events. Develop cyber incident recovery plans to equip the organization for swift and effective responses. Utilize CyberArk integration for privileged access management, ensuring only authorized personnel can access sensitive data. Manage audit logs to promote transparency and compliance with regulatory standards. Implement access management and role-based security controls to protect critical information assets. Explore the capabilities of relational databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and MS SQL Server. Investigate the potential of NoSQL and cloud databases, such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, Amazon Redshift, and serverless databases like Aurora. Employ Database Migration Services (DMS) to transition data seamlessly to cloud infrastructures. Enhance identity management through integration with SailPoint, ensuring secure and efficient access protocols. Leverage EMR (Elastic MapReduce), AWS Glue, and Athena for comprehensive big data analytics solutions. What we are looking for: Strong proficiency in cloud computing platforms, particularly AWS, enabling effective use of cloud services. Demonstrated expertise in managing AWS Global Aurora PostgreSQL and Global Aurora MySQL databases to optimize performance and reliability. Knowledgeable in various tools that enhance the monitoring and administration of cloud databases for improved operational efficiency. Experienced in developing innovative engineering solutions for both relational (RDBMS) and non-relational databases in the cloud, contributing to scalability and flexibility. Specialized in automating the provisioning, upgrades, security patches, and monitoring of cloud databases, streamlining operations and reducing manual effort. Competent in defining comprehensive procedures for cloud database backup, recovery, retention, and disaster recovery to ensure data integrity and availability. Experience in leading database engineering teams is a plus.
