The Communications & Marketing department at Stanford Graduate School of Business seeks an Associate Director of Communications. The AD will develop, execute, and assess proactive communications strategies aimed at enhancing our brand and elevating our reputation on a local, national, and global scale. The AD will work with the Director of Strategic Communications to plan, oversee, and execute school-wide proactive media relations campaigns and collaborate with other department leaders on strategic school-wide communications initiatives.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to interact with a variety of stakeholders, including the GSB’s world-class faculty, dynamic alumni population, talented staff, and the highest potential business leaders (students) from around the world. The AD will have an opportunity to identify and tell stories that highlight the GSB’s unique contributions in academic research, business, and society.

This role is expected to work a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of two days a week in person on the Stanford GSB campus.

 

Your primary responsibilities* include: Plan, oversee, and execute school-wide proactive media relations campaigns. Create compelling written communications and messaging specific to the needs and interests of multiple audiences and constituencies through a wide variety of communications platforms, including digital, print, and news media. Build, maintain, and leverage relationships with key reporters and editors, media, community, and government leaders. Build relationships with faculty members to promote academic research and thought leadership to external audiences. Develop strategic communication plans with metrics for measuring the plan's impact on the school. Work with the Director of Strategic Communications to develop strategies for crisis communications and issues management and assist in direct response. Partner closely with GSB Communications & Marketing teams (including social media, web, and brand) and University Communications to ensure consistent and complementary strategic plans with overall outreach and communications. Serve as project leader for public relations activities, including business school rankings and agency partners. Provide media training and guidance to faculty, staff, and students.

 

To be successful in this position, you will bring: Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Excellent written communication skills, reporting skills, and advanced skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proofreading. Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus. Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people. Capacity to write and synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood. Proven ability to maintain and leverage relationships with journalists and media outlets preferred. Demonstrated success in the execution of strategic plans is highly desirable. Ability to work a hybrid schedule. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

 

The expected pay range for this position is $109,969 to $135,664 per year.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
