What is the opportunity?

Reporting to the Director, FCAC Relations & Strategic Initiatives, this position is primarily responsible for providing current and forward-looking strategic insights, direction and support on new and emerging risks and regulations, including but not limited to, Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) and Open Banking to all Personal Banking & Commercial Banking (PB&CB) lines of business. This role performs oversight and challenge and provides guidance on the adoption and implementation of new regulations and frameworks by applying a continuous learning mindset, conducting independent research, and attending various internal and external forums to stay up to date with all emerging regulatory developments.

What will you do?

Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for PB&CB Compliance on emerging risk topics, to inform discussions with the FCAC and build regulatory confidence in RBC’s ability to adapt to emerging regulatory developmentsApply a continuous learning mindset and strong curiosity to stay up to date on the latest regulatory news, trends and developments pertaining to emerging risks to better inform strategic decision making and to support business initiatives/projectsApply strategic and critical thinking skills and a strong understanding of the business and new regulatory frameworks and requirements to assess emerging risks in transformational initiatives, regulatory changes and areas exposed to heightened regulatory scrutiny by working with the business, Compliance and Legal and other functional partners to advise on emerging risk mitigantsActs as second line of defense (2LoD) advisor and consultant, to communicate and educate (through development of guidance materials, job aids etc.) the business on a continuously changing regulatory landscape on emerging risk topics, keeping them apprised of upcoming regulatory frameworks and requirements supporting in the completion of RCM risk assessmentsProvide effective challenge to business and compliance partners on the adoption and implementation of systems, controls, policies/procedures and processes related to emerging risks, raising compliance issues where appropriate (including issue oversight, monitoring and escalation) and supporting the development of risk and issue mitigation strategiesWorks with the business and Compliance partners to identify enhancement opportunities through technological change and automation possibilities and creatively collaborate in projects to implement changes and embrace agile practices, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirementsSupports the Director, FCAC Relations & Strategic Initiatives to ensure that senior management reporting, internal regulatory change reporting, informational reporting to business stakeholders and external reporting to regulators on emerging risk topics are up to date and factually accurate

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

Knowledge of banking and/or work experience in areas such as risk management, technology (specifically Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), audit or compliance (specifically consumer protection).Experience interpreting regulations, very strong written and verbal communication skillsTechnologically savvy, analytical thinker and ability to draw meaningful insights and trends from dataStrong business acumen, strategic, ‘out-of-the-box’, critical thinker with natural curiosity and an always learning growth mindset.Strong collaborator with deep organizational awareness and relationships building skills, who can impact and influence partners across the organization (Canadian Banking, Compliance and Legal) and build internal and external relationships across the organization
