Associate Director, EUCAN International Health Economics and Outcomes Research

This is what you will do:

The Associate Director HEOR will be part of our EUCAN & International Team, and the Real World Evidence (RWE) and Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO) Centre of Excellence (CoE).

The person we are looking for will support and guide countries on the development and execution of various HEOR projects including modeling, RWE, PRO and Quality of Life (QoL). The role consists of guiding and leading both global and country colleagues on HEOR strategies, study planning and implementation to support current and future reimbursement submissions of Alexion products. 

The work to support the countries in the International EUCAN region will be done in close collaboration with our global HEOR TA and indication leads. The position will be based in Barcelona, Spain.

Through key leadership and partnership across functional teams, the job holder also embeds global HEOR strategy into broader disease area and clinical development strategies. This collaboration builds strategies to demonstrate and differentiate the value proposition and corresponding scientific evidence of Alexion products for payers, patients, clinical institutions and other key stakeholders.

The HEOR Associate Director partners with and provides thought leadership to Market Access, Clinical Development and Commercial teams on the specific HEOR needs and requirements for for Alexion’s pipeline and inline products.

You will be responsible for:

Utilizing in-depth knowledge of HEOR with disease area and portfolio strategy in to develop and build capabilities for the RWE and PRO CoEs.

Ensuring patient and stakeholder relevant endpoints strategies are implemented throughout the product lifecycle.

In particular this Expert will work with countries to support initiatives which incorporate the patient's perspective into clinical research and real-world evidence studies. Including designing, developing, and implementing outcomes research methods and studies to assess the impact of diseases and treatments on patient outcomes.

Builds collaborative relationships with cross-functional leaders across Research & Development, Commercial, Market Access organizations to maximize evidence generation efforts to optimize launch and sustained reimbursement throughout  the product lifecycle

Partners with the Therapeutic Area (TA) heads to develop TA business strategies and clinical development plans that will provide a competitive advantage to differentiated payer evidence; drives efficient and innovative HEOR study development and study execution and dissemination.

Continually monitors the global marketplace for market access issues, identifies access/demand hurdles and creates plans to demonstrate the value and differentiation of assets within the therapeutic area portfolio

Cultivates and maintains relationships with key experts, influencers, and customer segments to foster and maintain Alexion’s credibility to support the value and reimbursement of Alexion products

Delivers presentations on behalf of Alexion at various industry and scientific forums and/or contribute to publications

Maintains the relationship with external agencies and  monitors their performance  to ensure that performance and deliverables meet business expectations

Contributes to the global HEOR infrastructure to provide direction and guidance to the International Regional HEOR teams.

Provides HEOR leadership and guidance to the International markets making sure the markets have access to the most relevant, up to date and appropriate HEOR tools needed to gain, maintain and improve patient access for the therapeutic area responsibilities.

Develops best practices in HEOR including approaches to areas including research methodologies, study designs, endpoints that provide scientifically sound protocols, policies, tools and outcome impact.

Provides global oversight and guidance to country teams to adapt the global strategies into tactical plans through robust Health Technology Assessment processes to achieve optimal access and sustained reimbursement throughout the product lifecycle

Providing subject-matter expertise and training on HEOR, RWE and PROs to internal teams and stakeholders.


Preparing and presenting findings to internal stakeholders, external agencies, and scientific audiences.

You will need to have:

PhD, MSc in health economics, outcomes research or equivalent combination of education and experience7+ years prior experience in HEOR in the biopharmaceutical/pharmaceutical or consulting industryStrong Expertise and hands on experience in HEOR.   Experience with and good understanding of cost effectiveness and budget impact modeling.Experience in RWE, both prospective and retrospective observational research.     Knowledge of the field of Health Technology Assessment at a global level and experience of negotiations through the HTA processesUnderstanding of the global international market access landscapeKnowledge of the drug development and commercialization process within pharmaRecognized as a strong leader with a proven track record of effectively managing, influencing and developing people including those who are not direct reports: demonstrated ability to lead and deliver results in a matrix environment, and solve complex issues that cross multiple stakeholdersExcellent interpersonal skills with a track record of effectiveness as a team player; excellent oral/written communication and presentation skillsExcellent project leader who can effectively manage multiple competing priorities to completionFlexibility and adaptability to internal and external changeFluent in English spoken and writtenThe duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment.
