The Opportunity

 

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Facilities & EHS, the Associate Director will oversee all aspects of facility infrastructure, ensuring a dynamic and adaptable environment that supports innovation across research, development, and corporate functions. This role will play a pivotal part in maintaining and enhancing Avidity’s facilities to meet the needs of diverse spaces—including laboratories, service areas, and critical equipment—while enabling a fast-moving R&D organization. The ideal candidate will contribute to the successful launch of new facilities and champion long-term operational strategies that prioritize safety, reliability and adaptability.

 

What You Will Contribute 

 Responsible for all maintenance of physical structures, HVAC, mechanical, electrical systems, and plumbing of Avidity sites Partner with colleagues to ensure required laboratory infrastructure uptime through scheduled equipment maintenance and repair  Lead and provide hands on resolution for the operations, maintenance, and repair of facility support systems in a safe and expeditious manner  Initiate and influence integration of Facility related Safety policies and practices such as lock-out tag out, hot work permit program, etc.Ensure facilities compliance by maintaining up-to-date records for all Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)  Ensure efficient workflow and documentation of preventive maintenance (PMs) and work orders (WOs) and justify the need for additional resources or external support when necessaryImplement reliability centered maintenance programs and conduct life cycle analysis for all critical systems.Partner with R&D colleagues to implement and manage execution for calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, utilities (including compressed gases, liquid nitrogen, etc.)   Define and manage external supplier relationships and site support services as well as protocols for all vendor services   Perform procurement activities to include pre-qualification, negotiating facilities supplier agreements, preparation of contracts and management of related services  Serve as primary point of contact and provide support (including after hours) during emergencies/disasters and projects requiring non-business hours supervision/coordination  Plan and manage facilities related budgets    Hire, train, mentor, and build Facilities team to meet the demands of a growing business.  Perform all duties in keeping with the Company’s core values, policies and all applicable regulations 

What We Seek

 Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience required  At least 5 years of facility infrastructure and operations management experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry with experience supporting multiple functional areas   Prior people management experience preferred  Proficient to the operation and maintenance of several utility systems including DI water, compressed air, nitrogen, boilers, chillers, HVAC, refrigeration, and wastewater treatment plants. Experience with a variety of control systems, BMS and environmental control systems strongly preferred  Ability to be on-site 5 days/week at our San Diego headquarters is required.

The final compensation will be commensurate with such factors as relevant experience, skillset, internal equity and market factors.Avidity offers competitive compensation and benefits which includes the opportunity for annual and spot bonuses, stock options and RSUs, as well as a 401(k) with an employer match.
