Initiates, plans, organizes, and implements strategies to solicit funding from foundations and corporations designed to help achieve organization goals. Works under general supervision.
Responsibilities
Initiates, plans and implements creative/innovative approaches to solicit/attract foundations and corporations to funding opportunities at VNS Health; identifies/matches VNS Health projects and programs in need of funding with funder interests; and collaborates with program team members as appropriate in funding request meetings.Manages all aspects of philanthropic support from foundations and corporations with a core objective of growing revenue, corporate sponsorships, grants, and other innovative forms of development.Researches, develops, and writes grant proposals, interim and final reports, and other materials for prospective and existing funding sources. Identifies, cultivates, and maintains relationships with potential and existing funders through communications via phone, e-mail, ZOOM, and in-person meetings.Plans, schedules and coordinates meetings with funders, prospective funders and/or VNS Health program teams. Prepares and distributes meeting materials (e.g., background and profile material on the funder and target goals for such meetings).Manages grant submission and reporting calendars for existing and prospective foundation and corporation grants. Ensures data is accurate and updated, as needed.Maintains grants calendar; develops and implements systems and strategies to maintain up-to-date information on the status of all existing grants as well as proposals; oversees grants file management.Develops/facilitates regular communication (e.g., presentations, meetings, phone-calls, reports, and memos) with board members, development committee, program and operational program teams and key volunteers for the purpose of developing, implementing, and reporting fund raising strategies.Analyzes and understands emerging needs within the organization; identifies prospects and implements approaches to secure new funding.Stays abreast of philanthropic trends and foundation and corporate giving; develops strategies to regularly monitor and prospect for new funding opportunities.Performs other related duties and participates in projects, as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Business, Marketing, Social Sciences, Education or other related discipline is required.
Experience: Minimum of five years of experience in foundation or grant proposal writing and donor relations, preferably in a not-for-profit environment, required. Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required. Proficient in online grant submissions as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and Foundation Directory Online (FDO) required. Strong prospect researching skills required. Strong understanding of and contacts within NYC Metropolitan fund-raising community required. Experience using Raiser’s Edge software preferred.
