Directs selected sourcing functions. Responsible for ensuring that the sourcing function meets Sonoco Metal Packaging’s overall global plans and objectives.
What you’ll be doing:
Develops both short and long-term category negotiation strategies for all indirect sourcing categories.
Manages high-level negotiations with national and global suppliers for all indirect sourcing categories
Collaborates with corporate, sales and marketing, operations, subsidiaries, and divisions to develop and implement strategic sourcing initiatives and priorities.
Collaborates with corporate engineering and operations to develop and implement strategic sourcing initiatives and priorities for capital equipment purchases
Participates in the screening of acquisition candidates as required, and in any subsequent assimilation of sourcing activities.
Directs the activities necessary for the effective management of the indirect sourcing department including plant activities.
Directs the assigning of department staff and works with management to determine current staffing requirements and succession plans. Identifies training programs needed by staff for their continued development.
Ensures services, materials, and equipment are secured at the best competitive price, quality, and quantity.
Directs the claims process between plants and their suppliers.
Ensures that the supplier base is maintained based upon the evaluation of factors such as facilities, manpower, reliability, quality, pricing, financial status, and plant performance. Manages supplier relationships and development in such areas as on-time delivery, quality metrics and product innovation.
Directs the preparation of requests for proposals to bid based upon requirements provided by initiating department. Administers comparative price analysis and evaluates proposals, and quotations.

Broad training in a related field usually acquired through college degree or through equivalent work experience

10+ years of job-related experience to include purchasing principles, practices, nomenclature and procedures; generally accepted managerial practices and procedures; inventory control, scrap sales, claim procedures, national supply contracts, business practices, legal practices, and customer needs & expectations

Compensation:
The annual base salary range for this role is from $164,880 to $185,490, plus annual target bonus of 16.5% of base salary.
