Job Description

The RAMPP group within QTS is looking to expand its Architecture team. The group provides risk, pricing and trade processing solutions to our Capital Markets business, and is looking to consolidate best practice by building out opinionated platforms for our applications. In this role you will be collaborating on projects with RAMPP teams, helping to develop and implement re-usable best practice as shared libraries and components. This role provides an opportunity for a senior developer to broaden their exposure to a range of real world technology problems, using modern application design and deployment techniques to drive design and best practice for real business deliverables. It would be ideal for someone interested in moving into an architecture role and looking to broaden their experience.

What will you do?

Understand the current set of standard technologies and usage patterns.

Identify need for common technical solutions; implement and problem solve them. CICD and Cloud capabilities are expected to be a particular focus.

Engage with and lead design discussions in an objective fashion to bring groups to a shared agreement on common best practice.

Lead and contribute to InnerSource projects supporting common technical solutions.

Establish working relationships with teams across business units and platforms to agree best practice, establish learnings and gather feedback on best practice usage.

Engage with the implementation of multiple concurrent initiatives of varying complexity in a time efficient manner.  Monitor and control activities according to plan.  

In this role, you will communicate and interact frequently with RBC partners and/or employees located across Canada and/or worldwide.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

7+ years of professional experience in a developer role, with experience in one or more of Java, C#, Python or C++. This is a hands-on development role.

Experience of developing and maintaining container applications running on Kubernetes. Knowledge of related technologies such as Helm.

Experience using DevOps concepts and tooling to deliver applications.

Interest in developing technical skills by keeping up to date with latest trends in application design and new language features/usage.

Strong organizational and time management capabilities, as well as an ability to work closely with others.

Nice-to-have:

Hands-on development experience with Cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP.

Knowledge of application patterns such as Event Sourcing, SAGA, etc.

Knowledge of technologies such as:

Distributed caches like Hazelcast, GridGain

Cloud native projects like Knative, Argo, OPA, Cloud Events

Observability, in particular OpenTelemetry

Ability to facilitate between and influence key decision makers
