Reporting to the Director, Total Plan Risk Management the Associate Director, will participate in Plan level risk management efforts that take a holistic view spanning portfolio construction, liquidity management, currency management and their interaction with the Plan’s pension liabilities.
The Associate Director will contribute in a variety of ways to the strategies and decisions made at the enterprise level. The scope of this role will include continued enhancement of quantitative and qualitative metrics that capture and reflect a consolidated view of the total OMERS risk appetite and investment risk across all of OMERS investment platforms.
This role puts the Associate Director in a unique position to develop a holistic perspective of OMERS. The role encompasses a mix of research, quantitative analysis, communication and project management of complex cross-enterprise risk management initiatives. The role offers an excellent opportunity to build relationships while gaining exposure to a macro investment risk outlook and how it interacts with the pension liabilities. It is best suited for a dynamic, ambitious individual who is ready to learn quickly and take on progressively more complex tasks.

As a member of this team, you will be involved in:
Working with the Capital Markets, Private Markets, Risk Analytics and Oxford risk teams to curate relevant data and insights
Playing a key role in monitoring and identifying risks at the total portfolio level including capital allocation, balance sheet management and currency risk.
Preparing quarterly Plan level risk reports for Board and Senior Leadership discussions, while driving continuous enhancements to facilitate the delivery of a high-quality reports with relevant insights
Plan risk governance, including the review of investment risk policies and corresponding risk limits that are underpinned by supporting research and analysis
Providing insights regarding asset and liability interactions and anticipated plan behavior in a variety of stress test scenarios
Establishing strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the major investment units, Total Portfolio Management team and the Strategy & Actuarial team
Maintaining a constant lookout for market trends and risks emerging in the markets and translating them into why they matter for OMERS
Creating presentations and answering informal ad-hoc queries conveying complex risk measurement concepts in an effective and concise manner to non-quantitative audiences
To succeed in this role, you:
5+ years of relevant experience
The successful candidate will possess a blend of technical and communication skills most likely developed through working at, or consulting to, investment or risk management functions of large sophisticated financial institutions.
The technical skills / educational considerations will include:
Strong foundation in Risk Management industry standards, with a focus on investment risk measurement (e.g., market, currency, credit, liquidity, and portfolio construction)
Advanced analytical skills which include experience working with large datasets, complex calculations, and data visualizations
University degree in a quantitative discipline, such as mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, finance/economics, or engineering
CFA, FRM or other financial risk/investment related designation is a nice to have
The communication skills will include:
Excellent writing and presentation skills
Ability to capture the attention of senior investment staff when communicating risk- related topics
Experience with summarizing and presenting complex quantitative concepts to a non-quantitative audience
