What is the opportunity?
The US Credit Risk Review Associate Director will serve as a Subject Matter Expert and Examiner-in-Charge (EIC) within U.S. Credit Risk Review (CRR). In this role you will provide independent, objective assessment and evaluation on the effectiveness and adequacy of credit risk management practices, internal controls, credit risk ratings and corporate governance processes at RBC focusing on Wholesale and Wealth Management portfolios.
Key stakeholders include 1st and 2nd line of defense bankers, RBC executives, regulators, auditors, as well as, ultimately, the U.S. Risk Committee.
You will lead and participate in a variety of assignments including Target Reviews, Continuous Monitoring Reviews, Risk Assessments, and other ad hoc credit projects.
What Will You Do?
Leadership
Serve as Examiner-in-Charge for Target and Continuous Monitoring ReviewsProvide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to more junior team membersCredit Risk Review Practice
Lead and participate in the execution of CRR reviews related to Wholesale Credit Risk and Wealth Management, ensuring that credit risk reviews conform to regulatory guidance and RBC policy requirements.Supports the Directors with the execution of the risk-based annual plans and reporting to stakeholders.Collaborate within the CRR team to support the successful execution of reviewsIdentify and report potential weaknesses at the borrower and/or portfolio level and recommend an appropriate remediation plan to the relevant business units. Candidates will have a strong/growing understanding of credit, including changes to the regulatory and business environments.Implements the planned credit reviews and continuous monitoring to conclude on the effectiveness of credit risk underwriting and credit risk management, adherence to policies and procedures/processes, and ensure effective control solutions are implemented.Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure proper identification, documentation and resolution of all risks impacting the loan portfolio.Assists the Directors to ensure adequate, risk-based coverage of the U.S loan portfolio. Facilitate effective communication with GRM-Credit Management and the business on CRR’s evaluation of risk rating processes, credit risk frameworks, risk management practices, as well as performance in key / emerging risks.Offer effective challenge to management and ensure the development of appropriate management action plans to address identified Issues, deficiencies, and CRR risk rating changes. Ensure timely, effective implementation of corrective actions.Provide consulting, advisory services or carry out special tasks at the request of key stakeholders, which are consistent with our function to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management controls, oversight and governance processes.Initiates collaboration with, and assesses the effectiveness of, key risk management strategies across all 3 lines of defense.Data Analytics and Technology:
Continually build understanding of key / emerging risks related to credit risk in order to help expand data analytics in our credit risk review approach.Support the team by seeking out opportunities for the effective use of data analytics and visualization toolsStakeholder Relationships:
Engages team members, executives, regulators, auditors, as needed to facilitate proactive and ongoing monitoring and insights.Participates in highly sensitive situations with high-impact outcomes (with stakeholders) that could have material impact on the department, and appropriately escalates enterprise observations/issues to the CRR management.Involved in making recommendations that may will have a significant impact on the ongoing reviews.When negotiating, knows when to insist, when to compromise and when given a stalemate, to seek a fresh perspective.Initiates a conflict management approach to handle sensitive situations.Communicate trends in credit risk issues to senior management on the results of ongoing reviewsEngages collaboratively with 3rd Line, Internal Audit colleagues as needed.What do you need to succeed?
Requirements
Minimum of seven years of experience in wholesale credit in an underwriting, adjudication, or credit risk review, audit, consulting, or regulatory capacityExperience managing reviews or complex projects involving multiple team members and stakeholdersAble to work in a dynamically changing environment and demonstrates analytical mindsetThorough knowledge of various capital markets lending productsStrong negotiation, oral and written communication skillsAbility to handle a diverse workloadAbility to accept accountability, assume leadership and demonstrate initiativeAbility to work collaboratively and productively with various internal and external stakeholdersStrong interpersonal skillsStrong work ethicNice to Have

This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
