Associate Director Finance Japan

The Associate Director, Finance Japan will be responsible for various aspects of FP&A and Accounting support for the Japanese subsidiary. This position will be based in Tokyo and will report into the Director of Finance & Administration, Japan.  

A typical day might look like:

Partnering with the Japan commercial team in the preparation and review of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans

Preparing and distributing monthly management reporting package, highlighting underlying business performance and explaining variances vs. plan/forecast

Leading the headcount tracking and approval process

Leading various ad-hoc analyses throughout the year, using data to explain trends and proactively identify risks and opportunities

Participate in Joint Finance Committee meetings, as requested, and monitor compliance with existing agreements

 Identifing opportunities based on market trends, develop and review business cases, and seek internal endorsement where appropriate

 Liaising with the Company’s corporate accounting department to ensure that all group requirements are met

Liaising with external auditors to ensure smooth audit processes and timely responsiveness to auditor requests

 Liaising with external service provider to support preparation of annual statutory financial statements

 Supporting local SOX controls testing and internal audits

This role might be for you if you have:

8+ years of experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical/biotech environment

Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast paced international environment – flexibility, team-oriented, collaborative, and a positive attitude

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, financial reporting and analysis, and compliance

Experience with SOX and developing, improving, and maintaining systems of internal control 

Japanese/English fluency is vital 

Knowledge of ERP systems is required (Oracle/SAP)

 Bachelor’s degree in a business or quantitative field; MBA a plus
