The purpose of the Publication Lead for IBU role is to partner with cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams to lead the development and execution of publication strategic and tactical plans to ensure effective dissemination of scientific information to in support of the IBU regional needs. This is accomplished by collaborating, leading, and influencing medical leaders across IBU Medical Affairs, IBU Patient Outcomes/Real World Evidence, as well as commercial colleagues as appropriate. The IBU Publication Lead position includes strategic as well as tactical planning and execution of publications. The IBU Publication lead works closely with the Global Publications Strategy and Execution Lead (PSEL) to ensure full alignment with the Global Publication Plan for the asset and collaborates with the GSC Launch Capability Advisor to ensure best practices across the function.

Publication Strategy Development and Planning  Publication Management and Execution  Subject Matter Expert  Knowledge sharing/ Partnership

Leads the development of the IBU Publication strategy for an asset or portfolio, providing effective and novel publication strategies for the team to address customer questions for the IBU region in alignment with the global publication plan.Collaborates with Global Publication Strategy and Execution Lead to ensure publication plans are established in alignment with global strategy.Develops and maintains expertise on the publication environment in the IBU region including monitoring congresses/ journals and competitor publication strategies/ activities within disease state/area of responsibility.Uses strong strategic and analytical thinking to develop, defend, and implement IBU Publication strategic and tactical plans. Identifies gaps and opportunities for disclosure and provides recommendations to the team.Ensures that publications achieve the balance between business needs, scientific integrity, and compliance with publication guidelinesEnsures consistency of regional/affiliate publication tactics under the IBU Publication Plan.Identifies synergies and drives for alignment across portfolio when indications overlap.Works independently to integrate input from Lilly stakeholders (affiliate, region, global), resolves conflicting input, and incorporates multiple needs and strategies into an IBU publication plan that is acceptable to all parties and compliant with industry guidelinesEffectively and diplomatically interacts with Lilly Leadership and external authors/expertsMonitors customer questions to ensure the publication plan meets their specific needs.Develops a strategic publication plan in partnership with the Global Publication Strategy and Execution Lead and other affiliates/regions as applicable.Advocates internally and externally for appropriate authorship criteria on all work products.Manages and executes IBU Publication tactics based upon strategy, implementing for one large or multiple smaller publication plans, coordinating the disclosure of scientific data through peer-reviewed journals and scientific congressesEnsures publication tracking tools are up to date with accurate information (for example, Datavision)Organizes and leads content for IBU Publication strategy and operational meetings, including change controls, escalations and project updates.Works with teams to ensure smooth and timely development of documents.Communicates, collaborates, and negotiates with team to maintain focus and awareness of potential delays, problems, gaps of information, expectations, project steps, milestones, and deliverables to effectively manage the document process / progress and communicates issues to leadership.Provides oversight on outsourced deliverables, including timeline management, delivery of feedback and issue management with the vendor writer and/ or vendor writer supervisor.Collaborates with assigned writers to provide initial background for each publication.Develops and executes sourcing plans to ensure seamless delivery of IBU publications; anticipates and resolves sourcing needs and escalates issues appropriately.Ensures that local language translations for IBU publications are carried out per procedures.Uses available metrics to demonstrate the value of IBU publications to customers and business partners.Maintains and enhances therapeutic area knowledge including disease state and compound for assigned project.Exhibits flexibility in moving across therapeutic areas and compounds, depending on project assignment.Maintains and enhances knowledge of publication guidelines, e.g. ICMJE guidelines, Good Publication Practices.Functions as an expert on Publication strategy, planning and execution.Aware and invested in trends and benchmarking in the external landscape for the scientific communications on a compound, therapeutic area and competitors  Provides coaching to others by sharing technical information, giving guidance, reviewing documents when needed, and answering questions.Networks with others to identify and share best practices globally.Contributes to process improvements, suggesting opportunities where appropriate.Creates strong partnerships with, IBU, Marketing, IBU Market Access/GPORWE and other groupsProvides publication database and other publication tool expertise.Supports cross-functional coaching, mentoring, and training.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

PhD (or equivalent experience) in a scientific, health, communications, technology, health outcomes, or public health related field.Significant experience in the Medical affairs spaceProven experience in writing/managing publication and publication deliverables.Proven experience leading large/global/strategic projects. Demonstrated project management skills.Experience in leadership and organisational change management influence at all levelsDemonstrated to influence without authorityProven strength to communicate clearly and succinctly with all audiences and forums through exemplary oral and written communication skills.Demonstrated experience in managing pressure and conflicting demands with multiple customer groupsDemonstrated strength to build effective networks across functions, organisations, job levels and geographies. Demonstrated Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to be flexible in varying environments and with multiple customer groupsSelf-motivated professional with excellent customer service and strong working/team building relationship skills.Experience in working successfully across cultures and time zonesDemonstrated experience in data analysis and interpretation.Strong Cognitive abilities including verbal reasoning, attention to detail and critical thinkingDemonstrated high-level end-user computer skills (e.g., word processing, tables and graphics, spreadsheets, presentation and templates).

Graduate degree with formal research component or in life sciences.Clinical pharmacology, therapeutic area, or other medical and scientific specific knowledge and experience (e.g., neuroscience, oncology, cardiovascular, or endocrine expertise).Certified Medical Publication Professional CredentialAbility to work well independently and as part of a team.A writing exercise is possible as part of the candidate evaluation process.  Additional writing samples may be requested.Limited travel, up to approximately 10%.
