**Job Description**
This position is responsible for serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to federal programs by assisting F-1 and J-1 visa holding international students and J-1 visa holding scholars to achieve their objectives within the guidelines of immigration regulations, overseeing various social and cultural programs throughout the year, and collaborating with other departments across campus to raise awareness of international issues.

guidelines of immigration regulations, overseeing various social and cultural programs throughout the year, and collaborating with other departments across campus to raise awareness of international issues.
**Responsibilities**
+ Provide counseling and advising to F-1 and J-1 visa holding international students, J-1 visa holding scholars and their dependents regarding their personal, financial, academic, intercultural, social, and immigration issues and concerns. Design and deliver informative presentations to F-1 and J-1 visa holding international students and J-1 visa holding scholars on federal immigration procedures and regulations.
+ Serve as lead in planning, coordination, and implementation of a comprehensive orientation program for incoming F-1 and J-1 visa holding international students and J-1 visa holding scholars. Responsible for overseeing the orientation budget. Supervise, train and advise International Peer Advisors and International Peer Advisor Coordinators.
+ Maintain positive communications and contact with international partner institutions as well as managing enrollment and immigration of students participating in 2+2 programs, exchange programs, government sponsored programs and degree seeking international students. Work with international cohorts to manage student recruitment and participation in programs at SCSU.
+ Coordinate programs for current F-1 and J-1 visa holding international students and work to develop programs and resources for new activities and events which promote multicultural growth, awareness, knowledge, and appreciation for U.S. culture and the academic, social and cultural integration of international students and scholars, including faculty and staff. Coordinate the International Education Week program, International Friendship Program and Thanksgiving Program.
+ Oversee the verification process of the Academic and Cultural Sharing Scholarship Activities (ACSS) and cumulative GPA. Responsible for the ACSS appeal process, appeal decisions in conjunction with the appeal committee and applying scholarships to students with approved appeals.
+ Comply with federal regulations, policy and procedures, this includes monitoring for updates, to complete and file Curricular Practical and Optional Practical Training (CPT/OPT) for international students to seek internships and assistantships required for academic programs. Track and file data pertaining to student information (academic, professional) and communicate with US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) officers regarding visas.
+ Assist with overall office planning, special projects, assessment, online initiatives, sponsored student/grant-writing, and other new initiatives. Coordinate electronic newsletter and announcements for updates, activities and events. Responsible for the development, management and dissemination of all social media including Weekly Bulletin, Twitter and Facebook.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Master’s degree
+ Two years or more of advising and counseling experience
+ Experience with F-1 and J-1 regulations, including SEVIS database and functions
+ Competency in understanding the needs of international students
+ Ability to counsel groups or individual students
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills with cross-cultural sensitivity
+ Experience developing programs for international students
+ Ability to work with students and scholars from diverse cultural backgrounds
+ US Citizen or permanent resident (DSO and ARO)
**Preferred Qualification**
+ Experience managing volunteers and working with student and community organizations
+ Commitment to being a team member of a comprehensive international education services center
+ Must be highly motivated and have a student-centered philosophy
+ International experiences such as studying, working, living or traveling abroad preferred.
**Other Requirements**
Ability to lift and move boxes of supplies.
**Work Shift (Hours / Days of work)**
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
On-call responsibilities related to any emergency situation affecting the health and well-being of any F-1 or J-1 international student/scholar. Evening, weekend and holiday program participation related to the international student and scholar community may be required. Due to our students and partner institutions location across the globe requires communication outside our normal working hours to accommodate other time zones.
