Associate Director of Safety, Health, Environment

Introduction to role

Develop, implement, and maintain Environmental and Sustainability Programs and Services to ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations and company standards and values.

Accountabilities

Management of Environmental permit compliance
  - Perform monthly site walks and complete appropriate checklists to ensure compliance with all applicable permits.
  - Respond to environmental spills on the campus and inform proper regulatory authorities and follow through to ensure proper clean-up.
  - Liaison with wastewater consultant to ensure auto-samplers are working, samples are collected, data provided and ensure monthly report is delivered to regulator on-time.
  - Assist with onsite regulatory inspections.

- Responsible for Waste Management Program
  - Coordinate hazardous and bio-hazardous waste collection requests from facility with contract Environmental Waste contractor(s).
  - Oversee monthly waste/lab pack removal/biohazard waste removal sessions.
  - Provide guidance to the site on proper disposal methods for all waste streams.
  - Ensure CHWMEG reports or equivalent are in place for all waste disposal facilities and renewed accordingly.

Sustainability Program
  - Facilitate projects and events to support the Site’s sustainability projects.
  - Participate in site’s Green Team to provide guidance and support for the site activities.

- Participate in identifying and communicating environmental hazards and risks and establish engineering and administrative controls (including training support) uniquely matched to the hazards.
- Effectively use the SHE Management System tools/capabilities and other applicable systems in managing Environmental programs and projects.
- Lead and assist environmental spills/release investigations, including developing Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA) Plans, reporting, and recordkeeping.
- Stay abreast of new regulatory requirements as they are promulgated, as well as new developments in industry (best practices).

Additional Job Functions:
- Periodically seek one-on-one feedback from Supervisors and Managers on performance against expectations.
- Provide communications support for SHE cascade meetings.
- Provide other duties as assigned by the Director.

Essential Skills/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or similar field.
- 5+ years’ experience in Environmental field
- Experience working in cGMP environment, health and Safety, Sustainability

Desirable Skills/Experience
- Experience in a regulated industry (biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, other)

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $118,760.00 to $178,140.00 Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
