Associate Director Pharmacy

Summary: + The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing staff, daily operations and resources within the pharmacy department to ensure optimal result and high employee engagement. The Associate Director ensures that the department is run according to institutional policies and any applicable regulatory requirements. The Associate Director assists and supports the Director of Pharmacy in planning departmental goals and objectives. Responsibilities: + Responsible for oversight of the overall daily clinical and distributive operation of the. + Acts as a liaison between pharmacy services and other institutions, agencies and organizations. + Participate in organizational and departmental quality assurance activities. + Support the development and implementation of clinical programs supported by evidence-based pharmacotherapy and best practice standards including all patient-focused aspects of pharmacy practice. + Ensures appropriate leadership and clinical expertise is present on many hospital multidisciplinary committees, including but not limited to: PMPH P&T Committee, UPHS P&T Committee, and various UPHS PennChart Committees. + Responsible for the management and operations of the Pharmacy IV admixture service assuring that all USP 797 & 800 requirements are met. + Responsible for the management and operations of non-sterile service assuring that all USP 795 requirements are met. + Develops, updates, and implements departmental policies and procedures to comply with regulatory requirements as well as pharmacy best practices. + Responsible for developing ways to reduce and control pharmacy and hospital expenses as they relate to clinical operations. + Processes timecards for any direct reports. + Performs annual employee performance evaluations for any direct reports. + Performs formal audits of work areas to ensure that each area within the department is operating at a level that meets or exceeds service and financial expectations related to operations, personnel, and capital. + Responsible for reviewing departmental work schedules as needed. + Address and/or triage MIDAS reports that are relevant to the pharmacy department. + Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for medication errors. + Assist Director in utilizing departmental measures and indicators to assess departmental services and functions, reduce costs and improve services. + Acts as a liaison between pharmacy services and other institutions, agencies and organizations. + Arrange/conduct hospital and pharmacy orientation for new hires. + Assist in the development and implementation a training and competency program for all staff and maintain records of those completed competencies. + Serves as a preceptor for the longitudinal rotation of Pharmacy Practice Resident. + Assesses the department’s educational and staff development needs. Coordinates the education and training of the staff to new equipment, new technologies, programs, policies and procedures, drug therapies, problems identified through PI or other mechanisms, and staff suggestions.
