Position Summary

The Water Resources team is seeking two (2) entry level Associate EHS Consultants (Scientists). Employees at this level provide support in scientific areas of specialization with some supervision. Employees in these positions provide technical direction and oversight for functional areas in the natural or data sciences (e.g. fisheries, water quality, meteorology, data analytics). These positions provide critical operational support to nuclear, fossil, and hydro power generation stations and ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations (e.g., NPDES, Clean Water Act, FERC, NRC). 

It is anticipated one of the open positions will primarily support meteorological instrumentation and data management. For this position, a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in meteorology, data management/analytics, or one of the natural sciences with coursework or background in meteorology and data management/analytics is preferred.

The other position will primarily support fisheries surveys and surface water quality investigations and assessments. For this position, a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in fisheries, environmental science, or one of the natural sciences is preferred.  Job duties and responsibilities for each position will be assigned based on workload and the successful candidate's education and experience.

Responsibilities may include:

Provide scientific/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.Contribute to the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities in collaboration with higher-level employees and peers.Conduct scientific and related studies; projects and assignments are clearly defined with focus on development but must be able to complete routine scientific projects in collaboration with higher-level staff. Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; demonstrates skill in technical competencies and has ability to interpret technical information and instructions. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.Lead or assist with field surveys, investigations, and assessments related to fisheries, mussels, benthic macroinvertebrates, water quality, wildlife, and/or aquatic plants.Prepare, under supervision, thorough and accurate technical reports and procedures, correspondence, documentation, models, and drawings associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.Environmental data review, analysis, and validation, including application of QA/QC principles.Database management.Instrument calibration (surface water or meteorological).Dose calculations and air dispersion modeling.Surface water quality and hydraulic modeling.Purchase and maintain equipment.Commitment to safety and ability to work safely outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.Trailer and operate boats.Occasional travel with multiday site visits and station support.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Science, or other related field of study.In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, four (4) years of directly related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in fisheries, wildlife biology, chemistry, meteorology, data science, or other related natural science field of study, OR a high school diploma/GED and 4+ years of directly related technical experience.Knowledge of environmental regulatory compliance requirements, scientific practices, and quality assurance principles.Demonstrated effective communication skills (oral and written).Demonstrated ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.Demonstrated interpersonal skills.Demonstrated analytical and computer skills.With guidance can develop and implement systems and processes that comply with environmental laws and regulations, permit conditions, corporate policies, goals, and targets.Ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully complete each of them within specified timeframes.Self-motivated and demonstrates strong initiative.Results oriented.

Desired Qualifications

1+ years of directly related work experience.Master’s degree or higher in fisheries, wildlife biology, chemistry, meteorology, data science, or other related natural science field of study.Coursework, knowledge and/or experience in two or more of the following areas:MeteorologyData science and analyticsElectronicsFishery sampling techniquesFish taxonomyWater sampling techniquesWater quality assessmentsHydraulic modelingElectric power generation technologiesUnderstands project management concepts.Experience supporting environmental compliance.Experience trailering and operating boats.

Working Conditions
