Associate Electrical Engineer - (Junior Level EE) 

 

Summary 

The Associate Electrical Engineer will be part of Bureau Veritas (BV) Owner’s Engineering and Technical Advisory group, a multi-discipline team focusing on servicing clients in the renewable power and utilities industry.   

Owner’s Engineering services covers the whole CAPEX cycle of the project (conceptual / feasibility, permitting support, thru detailed design review, equipment inspection, construction support, commissioning, and start/up support).  

It requires both technical expertise and client-focused approach to ensure that the required quality level (against applicable industry codes and standards, AHJ requirements, and owner requirements) is met while minimizing the risks on the project schedule and cost for our clients.       

The candidate will be responsible to perform design reviews following BV typical design review process focusing on the following objectives (including but not limited to): 

Design meets all specified contractual requirements (owner’s requirements, interconnection / interface requirements, etc.) and in compliance with applicable codes and standards. 

Design includes the strategy for confirming and demonstrating that performance requirements can be met  

Design drawings, codes and specification are full and complete.  

Equipment and components are used within their specified performance and meet the project’s expected design life. 

Costs have been optimized after considering all project requirements. 

Scheduling considerations are taken into account. 

 

The selected candidate should have an electrical engineering background with strong knowledge on 3 phase AC power system from LV to HV (120 V AC to 230 kV AC) and DC supply/emergency and battery power system (5V-125 V DC) with a desire and ability to become familiar with other aspects of the design and construction of utility-scaled solar, wind and battery storage projects. 

Responsibilities 

The candidate will be responsible to perform design reviews following BV typical design review process outlined below: 

Receive design documents and make a review plan. 

Verify / Confirm the applicable Codes / Standards / Requirements applicable to the project. 

Check the authenticity and completeness of the documents. 

Perform design review against the applicable codes / standards and owner’s requirements. During design review, attention shall be given to such aspects as: proper input data and modeling, adequate selection of design parameters and design conditions, any nonconformance to contractual requirements that imposes risks on the project schedule and cost will be immediately brought up to Client’s attention.   

Develop and issue review comment report / log to Client. 

 

Job Requirements 

·         Knowledge of electrical engineering theories and principles. 

·         Minimum 2 years of experience in renewable power and utilities (or similar energy-focused industries) as a design engineer or owner’s engineer for an EPC or engineering firm. 

·         Experience with IEEE electrical design standards, NFPA, ANSI, and NETA standards. 

·         Ability to interpret codes, standards, regulations, and best practices. 

Experience with Power System Analysis software tools (ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, ASPEN, CDEGS) is strongly preferred. 

Proficient with Microsoft office applications and strong computer skills. 

·         Strong oral and written communication skills that foster positive interpersonal communication.  

·         Self-motivator who works independently with minimal oversight, and in a fast-paced team environment.  

·         Strong time management skills with ability to independently plan and organize work. 

·         Ability to prioritize work and participate on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. 

·         Critical thinking, attention to detail, effective in high urgency situations, flexible and dependable, honest, and ethical. 

  

Education / Certification Requirements 

·        Possess a 4-year electrical engineering degree or a 4-year degree in an Engineering Technology program accredited by ABET (required).   

·         Holding an active FE license is strongly preferred. 

Strong desire in pursuing PE license in Electrical Power is highly preferred
