Job Description
We are seeking an Associate Gateway Agent who will be responsible for maintaining operational excellence in international shipping, facilitating relationships, and ensuring accurate documentation. This role involves processing and assembling required documentation for air, LCL, or FCL shipments, updating shipment logs, and responding to customer inquiries.
ResponsibilitiesUnderstand the processes, documentation, and terminology involved in international shipping from purchase order issuance through the delivery of the cargo.Initiate, prepare, process, and assemble all required documentation for air, LCL, or FCL shipments.Ensure documentation is accurately processed, distributed, and released to the carrier, customers, and agents in a timely manner.Apply industry knowledge and critical thinking to adapt processes and create solutions in response to challenges.Execute and coordinate tasks to meet all SOP requirements, including submission of SLIs to carriers, ocean export bills of lading, shipment updates, processing pre-alerts, tracking shipments, and invoicing.Create, maintain, and update shipments in Navisphere, ensuring accurate data.Ensure a high level of data integrity on the master level of a consolidation, including routing, eManifest status, master level data, and documents.Communicate clearly and effectively with overseas offices, agents, customers, and outside vendors to ensure a smooth flow of shipments.Promote a positive working relationship with all team members.Work according to local and global laws, regulations, and procedures.Access airline tracking sites and update systems to match with company systems, ensuring consistency across platforms.Update logs with information such as weather delays.Respond to customer inquiries about shipment delays, provide explanations, and close out events in the system.Print out master bills, manifests, and other documents, and assemble them for handoff to the warehouse.Monitor and track shipments to ensure timely delivery.Essential SkillsCustomer service orientedProficiency in Microsoft OfficeEntry-level experience is preferredComputer navigation skillsProficiency in Microsoft Outlook applicationsData entry skillsAdditional Skills & QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDAttention to detailTeam-oriented mindsetOutgoing and outspoken personalityExperience in logistics, LCL, and FCLWork Environment
This role requires working Tuesday through Saturday, with hours from 8 AM to 5 PM on Tuesday through Friday and 8 AM to 5 PM or earlier (until done on Saturday). The office is located in a building with an attached warehouse in Des Plaines. The work environment is business casual and jeans are allowed. This role is fully on-site; However, hybrid work may be allowed down the road. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
