The Office of Cannabis Management is currently seeking an Associate General Counsel to serve as the primary attorney covering Tribal Compact compliance and at least one other identified area of need with the Office of the General Counsel. These areas include Medical Cannabis, Licensing, or Contracts, Grants, and Procurement. This role is responsible for providing the Office with legal expertise and advice, collaborating with OCM attorneys and staff, establishing legal policies, participating in rulemaking, and conducting legal research. Associate General Counsels are expected to regularly provide direct advice to agency leadership and routinely handle legal issues in their assigned practice area. This position is located in St. Paul and may telework from home two days per week and is expected to be in the office three days per week. A successful incumbent in this position will be able to: + Provide sound legal advice regarding compliance with all applicable laws and coordinate all legal functions related to tribal law, cannabis law, and general in house-counsel duties + Develop, review, and maintain internal operational policies + Conduct legal research on novel and complex issues + Identify potential legal problems and anticipate future developments as they relate to business units of the Office **Minimum Qualifications** _To facilitate proper years of service crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held._ + Three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney. Experience must demonstrate legal research, analysis, and writing skills sufficient to provide sound legal advice and draft error-free documents + JD from an ABA accredited law school + Current license in good standing to practice law in the State of Minnesota, or license in another state with the ability to be licensed in Minnesota within six months + Communication skills sufficient to effectively deliver complex information to a variety of audiences¿ + The ability to celebrate diversity and a strong commitment to a respectful and inclusive work environment **IMPORTANT!** In addition, applicants **must** submit a writing sample to be considered for this position. **Preferred Qualifications** + Four (4) or more years of experience as an attorney practicing in one of the following areas: + Administrative law + Tribal law + Litigation + Contract review + Knowledge of and experience with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act and/or Minn. Stat. ch 342 + Experience in the cannabis or other highly regulated industry (medicine, alcohol, transportation, etc.) + Experience working with Tribal nations or Tribal members + Experience determining the impact of proposed or adopted changes in state law, federal law, rules, or regulations that will impact a client **Additional Requirements** A job offer will be contingent upon successfully passing a background check.
