Associate Lab Technician
Job Description
Under direct supervision by department leadership, the Associate Lab Technician performs diagnostic clinical and clinical contract research testing. This role involves preparing samples through sample management and testing them on four different analyzers for customer results. Additionally, the technician supports the preparation of laboratory reagents and the routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
ResponsibilitiesUnderstand and adhere to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.Perform diagnostic testing on one of four analyzers, handling 500-1,500 samples per analyzer in a given night.Support the sample management team with sample identification, evaluation, labeling, processing, and centrifuging during high volumes or decreased testing needs.Prepare reagents as scheduled and maintain reagent support.Operate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance and calibration on equipment, participating in validations to ensure proper function.May release final results in accordance with training and compliance requirements.Essential SkillsB.S. in Life Science (biology, chemistry, biochemistry, etc.) or Medical Lab Tech (MLT) schooling with ASCP certification or Clinical Lab Science (CLS) schooling with 4+ years of hands-on testing experience.OR Masters degree with 2+ years of hands-on testing.Experience with laboratory sample testing (donor samples, patient samples, etc.).Additional Skills & QualificationsHuman biological testing experience (blood, tissue, urine, etc.).Blood banking experience.Biology lab internship.Experience with centrifuges, automated instrumentation, qPCR instrumentation, Gel Electrophoresis, and Sequencer.Work Environment
The lab is divided into three areas: a reference lab, HLA (DNA testing), and testing labs. This position is in the testing lab servicing the Indiana Blood Center and all of Versiti locations (Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan). The shift is Wednesday - Saturday, 4 10-hour shifts from 8pm - 6:30am, with training Monday - Thursday, 8pm - 6:30am. The role includes working 1-2 holidays per year. The dress code is scrubs or business casual with long pants and comfortable, clean, closed-toe shoes. Equipment used includes four main analyzers (Abbott Alinity S, Immucor Neo, Roche Cobas 8800, and another analyzer), pipettes, centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, microscopes, and various automated instruments and lab-specific equipment.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.75 - $26.50
