Associate Legal Officer (In-State Remote) - Public Information

Minimum Qualifications: 

Jurisprudence degree from an accredited law school and eligible for admission to the State Bar of Texas. Admitted to the State Bar of Texas within 12 months of appointment in title. 

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

Admission to the State Bar of Texas  Comprehensive, working knowledge of the Texas Public Information Act 

 

Job Description: 

Under supervision, provides professional legal guidance, service, and assistance to UTMB departments and administration. 

Scope: Institution-wide 

  

Job Duties: 

Under supervision, provides accurate, knowledgeable and timely legal advice based on research and analysis of issues involved in the situation.  Under supervision, prioritizes work effectively and completes work within designated time frames and provides bi-weekly status reports of current projects and activities.  Under supervision, analyzes and reviews public information requests and documents, exercising discretion and judgment in the application of laws, regulations and rulings.  Under supervision, manages all concurrent Public Information Act and Freedom of Information Act requests from receipt to completion while keeping Legal Affairs and University leadership informed of status, potential risks and/or pending issues  Assures that Legal Affairs leadership is made aware and kept informed of developments in projects and activities as necessary.   Establishes and maintains positive and effective working relationships within the department, the institution, and the University of Texas System and the local community.  Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.  Performs related duties as assigned.   

  

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:  

Excellent verbal and written communication skills  Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, staff, and all levels of employees at the institution as well as with UT System Office of General Counsel.  Problem-solving skills  Analytical skills 

  

Salary Range: 

$95,000.00 to $123,400.00, actual salary commensurate with experience.
