Associate Manager, Actuarial

We are excited to announce the formation of a new team, "Group Advanced Analytics," which aims to enhance our data science capabilities by integrating the expertise and resources of various departments. This team will bring together data scientists from the Chief Data Office (CDO) and Actuarial and Business Intelligence members from the Finance and Actuarial Community. As a team member within our dynamic and collaborative environment, you will be embedded in the Finance and Actuarial Committee, specifically within Group Insurance. You will analyze statistical data and provide business insights while leveraging your knowledge of insurance issues and product terminology. Operating with limited supervision, you will contribute to the direction and completion of ongoing projects.

The current EWA for this position is Hybrid and requires your on-site presence on a reoccurring basis as determined by your business. Your manager will provide additional details relative to the specific number of days you are expected to be on-site.


What you can expect:

Research, design, develop, maintain, debug, and enhance existing in-house Excel/SQL/Python-based models.

Develop expertise on actuarial calculations and Python code, becoming a key point of contact for these areas.

Collaborate with key stakeholders across multiple teams to understand business requirements and design effective, tailored solutions.

Uphold industry best practices while developing, testing, and documenting models.

Work within a small team (~5-10 individuals) to drive change and transformation within BU Finance teams by enhancing methodology, process/data flow, and technology.

Approach problems creatively and evaluate situations from all angles to implement new solutions.

Utilize flexible collaboration styles to build a cohesive team and maintain progress.

Build partnerships with associates across finance, data office, technology, and other business units.

Communicate complex and technical solutions to non-technical audiences. Evaluate demanding situations, understand challenges, and take necessary risks to meet key milestones.

Make project-level decisions that will be instrumental in keeping pace and setting the stage for future actions.

Take responsibility for projects as if they were your own business. Understand that the role is not about knowing all the answers, but about finding them.

What you'll need:

Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science, or other quantitative-related fields preferred.

2+ years of actuarial experience, preferably within an insurance company.

Progress towards ASA designation is preferred.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to discuss intricate actuarial concepts effectively within a group setting.

Deep knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Office-suite software.

Ability to write and understand Python and SQL code with a keen interest in further developing expertise in this area.

Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to understand concepts and assess situations in a timely manner.

Self-motivated individual with a strong desire to learn and grow.

Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables.

Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify solutions and alternatives for high-priority challenges.

Excellent execution and business partnering skills, along with strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Demonstrated success working on cross-functional teams that achieved long-term goals while managing short-term challenges.

It'd be a plus if you had:

Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.

Experience working with data scientists on advanced data science models.

Experience with cloud storage systems such as AWS and Redshift.

What we offer you:Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $90,100.00 to $134,100.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
