We are seeking a Associate Mechanical Engineer to support the Hardware Engineering Department by performing technical activities as part of an electro-mechanical product development team that designs laboratory automation/robotic systems. This is a hands-on position working with robots and peripheral equipment from prototype to production. This is an entry-level position and suited to individuals passionate about mechanical design with a strong interest to learn and grow in the field of embedded laboratory automation/robotics systems.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsible for mechanical aspects of product design, development, and prototyping.
Design mechanical components and generate drawings and other design documentation.
Investigate and resolve technical problems involving product performance, production equipment or facility systems affecting production.
Test prototypes and released products to verify design to customer specifications and write reports to document the testing.
Determine and establish specifications and standards and write manuals, manufacturing and inspections instructions, specification sheets and technical reports for new and existing products.
Perform a variety of engineering tasks in the planning and design of electro-mechanical products, manufacturing and assembly tooling, electrical enclosures and cable assemblies.
Determine and establish specifications through engineering calculations and layouts. Use appropriate engineering tools such as CAD, FMEA, DFA, in the successful completion of design projects.
Support sustaining activities of existing products.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Knowledge/Educational Requirements:
Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or related area (or equivalent experience)
Work experience/or internships in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Experience in designing and testing electro-mechanical, pneumatic and fluid systems preferred.
Experience with solid-modeling CAD software (Solidworks) preferred.
Understanding of GD&T and manufacturing processes for precision machined parts.
Strong analytical ability capable of understanding complex systems with multiple variables.
Candidate must be a good team player and possess good organizational skills.
Must be able to clearly communicate technical ideas, both orally and in writing, to internal and external customers.
Working knowledge of robotics/automated systems is desirable.
Occasional exposure to lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted
Occasional travel
