The University of Texas Health San Antonio

The Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology in the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio invites applications for faculty positions at the Associate or Full Professor rank.  Individuals holding a Ph.D., DVM, or MD with an outstanding record of innovative research and academic scholarship broadly related to physiology are encouraged to apply.

We seek faculty candidates of integrity and dedication and an aspiration for discovery. Preference will be given to those with substantial national funding. UT Health SA is responsible for the education of medical, dental, and doctoral students, and dominates patient care throughout a substantial fraction of Texas.  We highly value the dignity of our entire university community and collegial collaboration among faculty.

The successful candidate will receive a highly competitive start-up package and laboratory space.  Expectations include maintaining a vigorous externally funded research program, providing exemplary mentorship, and contributing to the teaching mission of the department, including in the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Our department fosters a team atmosphere, with robust mentoring of early-career faculty and highly supportive departmental leadership strongly invested in the success of our faculty.

We offer multiple centers/institutes at UT Health SA, including the Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases, Barshop Institute for Aging, the Centers for Biomedical Neuroscience and Mucosal & Microbiome Biology, and the Center for Innovative Drug Discovery.  Located in San Antonio are also the San Antonio Army Military Medical Center, the Audie V. Murphy Veterans Hospital, and the Southwest Research Institute, all of which are open to collaboration. We also seek to expand our interactions with other leading institutions in our area, including UT San Antonio, UT Austin, Texas Tech University, and Texas A&M University.

The San Antonio metropolitan area, with a population of 2.5 million, is widely known for its high standard of living, numerous cultural events, outstanding schools at all levels, and an enviably moderate cost of living. We are a rapidly growing city representing a rich historical and cultural identity and feature a community spirit of welcoming to all. Located nearby are unique attractions and offerings in Austin, the picturesque resort towns on the Texas Gulf Coast, and the scenic Texas Hill Country.
