Associate Principal Scientist, Sanitation and Food Safety
Overview The role resides within the “Food Safety, Sanitation & Sustainability” team of Food Safety Center of Excellence (FSCoE). It supports the design, deployment, and execution of PepsiCo food safety programs, such as sanitation and food safety systems (e.g., food safety plan/HACCP, pathogen environmental monitoring). It also helps resolve sanitation and food safety challenges facing supply chain and R&D. Responsibilities This Associate Principal Scientist role in Food Safety, Sanitation & Sustainability” team will: Support Pepsico food safety strategy in deployment of the sanitation and food safety programs (e.g., Food Safety Plan, Pathogen Environmental Program, sanitation, allergen program, physical hazards, water reuse, etc.) within North America. Provide sanitation and food safety SME support to R&D and supply chain stakeholders for safe, stable and legal production. Collaborate across the FSCoE to explore new capabilities which maximize productivity, increase agility, and drive new insights. Work with Product Developers and Engineering functions to support the assessment of new production equipment designs, sanitation chemistry and methods, and process validation. Ensure accurate documentation of test goals and objectives, test design, and testing procedures. Support food safety hazard and contaminant control through existing sanitation and food safety programs. Provide support to plants to close regulatory gaps (if any) in a timely fashion to ensure regulatory compliance. Assess food safety risks and develop proposals and strategies of executing recommended processes, programs, and procedural improvements to support the mitigation and control of hazards and contaminants, through consultation of existing food safety program and global manuals. Conduct horizon scan to identify, test and roll out new technologies in support of food safety initiatives. Apply risk assessment to various scenarios to come up with proper strategy to control the risk. Ability to travel to field locations up to 50%. Compensation and Benefits: The expected compensation range for this position is between $85,200 - $142,650. Location, confirmed job-related skills, experience, and education will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range during the hiring process. Bonus based on performance and eligibility target payout is 10% of annual salary paid out annually. Qualifications BS/MS/Ph.D in Food Science, Food Engineering, or Microbiology field. Having working knowledge and experience of sanitation, food safety plan/HACCP, microbiology, pathogen environmental monitoring, cGMPs, etc. Familiar with Food Safety Plan, HACCP, auditing schemes, etc. PCQI certification or good understanding of food safety hazard assessment is a plus. Strong organizational and data management skills. Sound data interpretation skills and CAPA development. Achieve quality results consistently despite obstacles. Monitors progress against goals, identifies issues and takes corrective action early. Able to provide guidance/support appropriately to meet business timelines; successfully handle adverse circumstances.
