Your Role

 

The Associate Production Scientist at MilliporeSigma plays a crucial role in ensuring product quality by performing trace metals analysis on a wide array of samples. This includes raw materials, in-process and final product samples, with sample types ranging from ultrapure water/solvents to air-sensitive/pyrophoric materials, all in support of the company's business objectives. Responsibilities and daily tasks include the following:

 

Maintain a safe and clean lab environmentPerform routine analysis using ICP-OES and ICP-MS from collecting/preparing samples to generating analysis reportsConduct routine instrument maintenance and troubleshoot minor instrument issuesAssist management with prioritizing samples for analysis, supporting method development and data documentationPerform operations to meet quality expectationsEnsure quality throughout the processComplete the volume of work required to achieve group/departmental goals and meet deadlinesContribute to support functions of the lab (e.g., maintain equipment, prepare reagents, restock lab supplies, waste disposal)Communicate the status of operations and bring deviations to the attention of supervisorProvide complete and accurate records consistent with quality guidelinesEnsure all applicable logbooks have been filled out completely as required by current proceduresInteract with other departments as neededParticipate in quality audits as neededImprove processes through application of scientific knowledge, experience, and principles while in compliance with change control proceduresIdentify opportunities for process improvementParticipate in process improvements under the guidance of a Supervisor or ScientistResolve any unsafe conditionsTrain personnelAct as a technical consultant as neededPerform and interpret analytical evaluations of products and intermediatesSupply information based on experience and knowledgeShift/hours: 1st shift, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, M-F

 

Physical Attributes: 

 

Wear appropriate protective gear, (hard hats, glasses/goggles, chemical resistant suits, gloves, safety shoes) and other personal protection equipment “PPE” to protect themselves from toxic or corrosive chemicals in the forms of liquids, solids, vapors or airborne particlesView computer monitors for long periods of timeSit, stand, walk, reach above the shoulder, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch or crawl for long periods of timeUse senses to avoid a potentially hazardous situation involving chemicalsLift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and ability to push and pull heavy materials to complete assignmentLift more poundage with assistanceUtilize close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision and the ability to adjust focusUtilize phones, computers, computer monitors and all office/laboratory equipmentType at a computer keyboardRead CRTs/computer monitorsWork in both a large-scale process environment and a glass lab environment

 

Who You Are


Minimum Qualifications: 

 

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biology or other life science discipline OR 4+ years of experience working in chemical production or a lab setting


Preferred Qualifications: 

 

Knowledge in chemistry or biochemistry, math and general scienceFamiliar with laboratory instruments and production equipmentIndependent chemistry lab research experienceProcess techniques and unit operationsAnalytical techniques and equipmentSafe chemical handling methodsStrong oral and written communication skills
