Posting Number ACAD480 Job Title Associate Professor of Virology (Microbiology, Biochemistry and Immunology) Position Title Associate Professor of Virology (Microbiology, Biochemistry and Immunology) Position Type Faculty Number of vacancies 1 Salary 150000 Department Micro/Biochem/Immun (MBI) Position Summary Morehouse School of Medicine seeks an accomplished and visionary Virologist to join the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Immunology. The successful candidate will have over 10 years of extensive academic and industry experience in various areas of virology and method development, strongly emphasizing antiviral drug discovery. This position requires a leader with a demonstrated ability to manage research projects and teams effectively while maintaining a strong publication record and contributing to the post-discovery drug development process, including regulatory interactions with the FDA and other agencies through pre- IND and IND mechanisms. Key Responsibilities: + Conduct cutting-edge research in virology, focusing on antiviral drug discovery and method development targeting various viruses, including SARS -CoV-2, Flaviviruses, Alphaviruses, Influenzaviruses, Enteroviruses, and Herpes viruses. + Lead and manage multidisciplinary research teams, fostering collaboration and innovation. + Develop and optimize novel methodologies for studying viral pathogenesis, antiviral mechanisms, and therapeutic interventions. + Engage with regulatory agencies ( FDA and other relevant bodies) through pre- IND and IND processes to facilitate the advancement of antiviral therapeutics. + Publish high-impact research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences. + Secure external funding through grants, contracts, and industry collaborations. + Mentor and train graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty members. + Contribute to curriculum development and teaching in virology, infectious diseases, and related fields. + Develop and maintain collaborations with leading scientific institutions globally. + Multidisciplinary knowledge base with expertise in method development and assay optimization. Minimum Qualifications + Ph.D. in Virology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field. + At least 10 years of academic and industry experience in virology research, antiviral drug discovery, and method development. + Extensive experience in post-discovery drug development, including engagement with regulatory agencies. + Proven track record of leading independent research projects and managing teams. + Strong publication record + Experience in patent generation and translational research collaborations. + Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring students and trainees. + Outstanding speaking and presentation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
