Role/Department: Associate Research Scientist – BioAnalytical Research and Development

Location: Middleton, Wisconsin

Additional Details: Full time, fully onsite


Summarized Purpose: 

The Associate Research Scientist is responsible for developing bioanalytical methods, including creating and implementing new techniques, enhancing existing methods, and transferring client-provided methods. This role involves conducting method validation in accordance with industry guidelines, serving as the Principal Investigator, and overseeing projects from study design through to execution and final reporting. Additionally, the Associate Research Scientist communicates with clients to provide updates on project progress.

A Day in the Life:

Performs troubleshooting on LC/MS/MS analytical instrumentation, calculates and interprets data, and records data in adherence with PPD SOPs and any additional requirements specific to the lab and / or client.

Independently performs analytical testing, method optimization/validation, and/or other specialty technologies studies OR method transfers for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical compounds in a variety of formulations and/or delivery systems. Understands and conforms to methods, and protocols applicable to assigned tasks. Designs and executes experiments independently. 

Routinely acts as the technical project leader for multiple projects, interacts with clients on a weekly basis (or as needed) to provide updates, reviews and evaluates data, writes reports and protocols.

Acts as a primary contact for the department on projects, interacting with internal and external personnel on significant matters that often require coordination across functional areas.

Reviews and critiques study protocols, project status reports, final study reports and other project-related technical documents.

Prepares and reviews study protocols, project status reports, final study reports and other project-related technical documents.

Communicates data and technical issues to clients on a weekly basis (or as needed).

Provides technical guidance and training to staff.

Leads analytical (procedural and instrumental) troubleshooting sessions.

Assists in preparation and implementation of SOPs and quality systems.

Reviews, interprets, and analyzes data for technical, quality and compliance to protocols, methods, SOPs, client criteria and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of LCMS and chromatography preferred

Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities

Capable of working independently with minimal day-to-day instruction, and effectively handling new assignments with general guidance.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word

Proven track record to interpret data by performing trend analysis

Consistent record in technical writing skills

Demonstrates strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Good written and oral communication skills

Effective time management and project management skills

Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team

Ability to train junior staff
