Associate Research Scientist Part Time Non-exempt
The Associate Research Scientist will lead data management and provide technical support and developing monitoring solutions for the Lab’s digital products and cloud-based platforms. This position will also provide technical assistance and contribute to the development of ClimateIQ, an AI-driven climate risk tool supported by Google.org. The ideal candidate will have experience in software development, operations and testing especially for cloud-based tools like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to support maintenance, configuration, and deployment of ClimateIQ’s techstack. The engineer will assist with the design of, as well as configure and maintain infrastructure and cloud resources necessary to reliably host, run, and support ClimateIQ. Responsibilities: + Oversee maintenance and improvement of the technical stack for the modeling environment, including cloud computing, storage, and database pipelines + Manage IAM roles and permissions, ensuring adherence to the principle of least privilege + Manage resource deployments and configurations (VPC networks, etc.) + Oversee frontend deployments (reverse proxy, service deployments, etc.), troubleshoot configurations and network issues + Ensure application performance monitoring, infrastructure stability, and timely maintenance/upgrades + Assist in defining service level objectives (SLOs) + Update blueprints and library installations + Manage CPU quota increases and project creation for parallelization of simulations + Set up efficient directory structures for data transfer between GCS buckets and VM instances In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $50/hr. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. + Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. + Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure). + Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and JavaScript for data analysis and visualization. + Proficiency in machine learning and statistical modeling. + Familiarity with climate and environmental datasets.
