The role of an Associate Scientific Services Specialist is to provide critical lab support and coordinate services for research groups to ensure smooth lab operations.
Responsibilities
+ Serve as the main point of contact for lab staff, coordinating lab needs and activities.
+ Oversee stock items such as glassware, lab coats, PPE, and consumables, and coordinate waste removal.
+ Escort third-party vendors for maintenance and repairs.
+ Meet with stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure quality and compliance.
+ Collaborate with safety representatives to maintain lab safety.
+ Provide updates and communication to lab users.
+ Conduct general induction and orientation for new staff and visitors.
+ Coordinate 5S lean service and cross-train in other lab support areas.
+ Complete paperwork according to Good Documentation Practice.
+ Participate in committees and facilitate meetings.
+ Assist with freezer, refrigerator, and cold room clean outs.
+ Communicate cold space outages and track inventory moves.
+ Maintain training and compliance in health, safety, security, and environmental aspects.
+ Provide on-call service for controlled temperature units from 5:00pm to 7:30am, Monday through Sunday.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency with office equipment and software.
+ Self-motivated with good communication skills and technical problem-solving abilities.
+ Excellent customer service skills and ability to follow directions.
+ Initiative-driven with attention to detail.
+ Intermediate MS Office skills, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
+ Experience with GLP/GxP and 5S principles.
+ Knowledge of chemical handling and safe practices.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associate's Degree with 1+ years' experience in a customer-facing role within a scientific environment, or High School Diploma with 2+ years' experience.
+ Certification or Associate's Degree in a relevant field with 1-2 years of experience.
+ Understanding of GLP/GxP and experience with 5S principles.
+ Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.
Work Environment
The work environment is a lab setting where personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. The role involves working in a fast-paced environment with high job demands. Occasionally, there will be a need to move between labs and lift up to 25 pounds. The position also requires handling hazardous waste according to safety protocols.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $25.00/hr.
