Associate Software Development Manager, Discover Voice - Reston

Why We Have This Role

\n

The Qualtrics Foundation Engineering Organization is seeking a Software Development Manager for its Voice team. The Voice team builds the services and tools that load and transcribe over 1M calls per day across hundreds of customers. These tools run entirely at AWS using kubernetes, Dynamo, SQS/SNS, RDS, DocumentDB, and a variety of other technologies.  We are seeking a leader for this team who will accelerate Qualtrics' ability to scale across data volumes, data centers, spoken languages, and user audiences.

How You’ll Find Success

\n\nCreating trust and influence across engineering teams through direct and transparent communication\nEstablishing productive working relationships with other platform teams, customers, and subject matter experts\nCreating a culture of psychological safety for your team\nCrafting and delivering upon the Northstar vision for the team in a highly ambiguous space\nMentoring all levels of engineers, both technically and in their careers\n\n

How You’ll Grow

\n\nYou will be expected to gain a deep understanding of our horizontally scalable tech stacks, both in terms of how to build them and how to operate them. You will grow as a leader, coaching both junior and senior engineers and defining the technology and hiring plans for the team.\n\n

Things You’ll Do

\n\nAuthor the Northstar vision and roadmap for the team and create quarterly plans that accrue to that vision\nInstill best practices for the software development lifecycle and operations across the team\nActively manage the team, gathering and providing candid feedback, mentoring and coaching individuals, and delegating appropriately\nMaintain active expertise in the telecommunicationstelephony, audio processing and transcription, and high-scale system engineeringprocessing spaces, as well as understanding the industry for these domains\nCollaborate with leaders and teams across a variety of geographies and disciplines\nInfluence the way that engineers at Qualtrics build software through best-in-class tooling and services\n\n

What We’re Looking For On Your Resume

\n\nTechnical leadership or management of a team of software developers ranging from graduate level to senior engineers\nStrong background and technical capabilities in softwareobject-oriented design and development using modern programming languages and models\nExpertise in building and scaling distributed systems, and understanding of CAP theorem\nExpertise in AWS cost management and optimization\nProven record of delivering enterprise software\nEvidence of continuous learning and improvement\nA bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field\n\n

\n\nWe are constantly upgrading our skills and capabilities.  For example, we are currently migrating from Jenkins to GitlabCI and/or Spinnaker in order to more easily deploy to multiple global locations. \nWe work at high scale; we regularly have to bump up our Amazon resource limits and are continuously assessing our efficiency.\nThis team sits alongside all of the other internal platforms, infrastructure, and developer experience teams that power Qualtrics. We hold a high bar across these teams and foster a culture of transparent discussion and rigorous design reviews.\n\n
